The original poster inquires about the timing for re-entering Thailand with a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) that expires on March 1st while being in Vietnam until mid-February. Community responses indicate that re-entering Thailand on the expiration date (March 1) is possible, but entry is subject to the discretion of immigration officers. Multiple comments highlight concerns about how one’s previous visa history, usage patterns, and recent immigration trends may affect re-entry possibilities. General advice includes being cautious about extended tourist stays as Thailand has become stricter with long-term tourism.

You can re-enter on the last day of the validity. However, there will always be the risk using any kind visa that the IO will deny you entry if they think - for whatever reason - that you are misusing the visa for another purpose than the intended use - in this case tourism. I tried that one time on a multiple entry Non-O (when still available) that the IO told me to get an annual extension instead of doing border runs on a Multiple Entry Non-O. I asked for the IO in charge, and he let me in advising me not to use this particular border station next time... My problem ended up to be that my local Immigration wouldnt give me an extension as long as my Non-O was still valid.
well, the LAST entry on a METV is still under the individual discretion of the Immigration officer you are standing in front of. If your recent 12-18 months stay history shows any indication of you misusing touristic entries for a longstay in Thailand, even a METV cannot guarantee entry. YOU are the one who knows your stamp history, WE don't
Hi John, I’ve just been denied entry on my METV with a week remaining on it. I am now having to go to KL to get a new SETV as immigration wants me to get a new visa! Oh the joys! You might be ok but just to let you know I’ve been stung!
Ian Morrison yes some truth to that but I’ve mostly been on non b’s over the decade working in schools - I can in once on a waiver that was the one they said to get a proper visa so went home for 6 months, worked and got the METV and here I am. I was just foolishly under the impression that I could get one more lot of 60 days and I wasn’t even gonna use all that! on my first extension the very nice immigration officer said your visa valid till October 4 you can stay till then so yeah but should’ve left on the fourth I guess anyway it’s right I’ll just take a good break reapply and I’ll be back - happy to play by the rules, but just frustrated by how it all came down.
Why do you think a single entry tourist visa is any different from an entry on a multiple entry tourist visa? I doubt that's what they meant when they said get a visa, more likely a long term visa. If you're 50 or over get a 90 day Non-O visa.
Leevi Kiviranta Have you not see what’s been going on here with long stay tourists it’s going to the dogs ,if you want to live here just get the proper visa
Leevi Kiviranta and I only needed a week beyond expiry before heading out again! And even though I have plenty of funds and showed a copy of the ticket the officer flatly said ‘I don’t believe you’ - and the notice I got before leaving this morning said insufficient funds which isn’t even true!
John Bunn No, they said 5 months is too long to be here. Also, some of the kind people handling my situation have HIGHLY RECOMMENDED re-entering via Swampy and NOT DM which I’ll be doing. I was just going to do my last stretch before Xmas and head home as I literally had everything in order. Now, have spend more funds just to have an extended trip just to come back and collect my things. It’s ok folks I know I’ve messed up just sharing to help inform others.
Justin Hofman I was nearly denied entry with a METV at Swampy last October because I always use it to stay 6 months, be careful. They told me no more tourist visa entry for me so I got a NON O
John Bunn seems you can enter on or before the 1st. Not knowing your travel history or what mood your IO is in it's really hard to tell. Remember nothing is guaranteed. In Thailand everything is the same but different. Enjoy your trip.
