If you upload your passport photo to the evisa system it will also use ocr and prefill the form, I believe it prefilling based on the bottom "computer" line from the passport, you can see how system handling that and how it will prefill your name.
Anonymous participant 566 a Malaysian last week posted that the way he filled it out like this got him rejected for incorrect name but I don't think he's specified which embassy. There's a possibility that every Embassy is different rules
Wrong, Malaysian have no lastname/surname, please fill in your full in firstname column and fill "-" In surname, my DTV was rejected for 3 times in Canada due to name errors.
I am not Malaysian but from personal experience I'd say avoid using a middle name. Not every computer system in Thailand is ready for a middle name.
My passport has a double < after the family name. I put my middle name separate from my last name, and that causes computers to complain when trying to match my first name between different systems ... some have both first and middle, some just first.
Do check as to how the application form would extract the name from the passport copy.! I suspect it might take the whole as first, there being no column for surname.!
I agree it is a confusing conundrum. The MRZ also confusing with only single < separators. The website suggests only filling in the first name field if you don't have a last name, or only the last name field if you don't have a first name.
I would definitely contact the embassy with the two passport pictures attached.
The OP needs to make sure he saves the Embassy response. If he follows their instructions and his application is cancelled due to metadata mismatch he most definitely is entitled to another free application!
They're all wrong because your passport does not have a double arrow which is the formal separator between a last name and first name. Technically by international standards the entire name is a last name in the same order of words as shown in the MRZ zone. The problem is nobody knows what the Thai e-visa system interprets this as. The instructions on the Thai Embassy websites say that if your name does not have a first name enter the whole name into the last name field, or if your name does not have the last name enter the whole name into the first name field. But it does not mention whether having no double arrow means that you have only a first name or only last name. If you upload your passport to the application website and check how it automatically autofills the name fields you can get an idea what might be correct.
There have already been posts by Malaysians if you search the group about being rejected by trying to enter their actual first name into the first name field and last name in the last name field.
