Is it worth moving to Thailand given the visa complications compared to Cambodia?

I have been in Isan for nearly 7 years but never in cambodia so cannot make a comparison. But udon immigration and the level of corruption here astounds me. I would never recommend the place. If things go well it is great but if any small issues arise, it is not a place to be.

No real answer. You can rent some places where you pay the electricity bill, some landlords pay the bill and charge you at an inflated rate. Water rates are quite small. Check you lease

Fly on license, take damaged passport with you. For most nationalities a replacement passport is cheaper than a new one.
