Regardless of whether you have a valid visa or not, entry to any country is always at the discretion of the Immigration officers at your entry point. This happens all over the world, but as

The clock is reset when you return, but your missing a filing date will be on record and you will probably get fined.

arrival day counts as day one, so you would count 89 days after that, and you can do it up to 15 days before or 7 days after (calender days not working days).
