How can I successfully apply for a DTV visa from Hanoi and what should I prepare?

I’m going to be flying to Hanoi on the 14th and apply… any suggestions on what I need from Thailand for preparation? I haven’t booked a return ticket yet as I’m worried I might have to wait longer and miss the return flight, is it necessary to show them the return ticket?
