After 1000 baht fine for 2 day overstay the difference is 900. Its hardly worth trying to save 900 when if you get picked up while on overstay it can cause a lot more problems than its worth. There were recent reports of some people being picked up in the airport terminal itself before getting to passport control. Safer to get that extension IMO.

How long have you been in Thailand in total over the past year? less than 6 months. If so, easily get another 30+30 days stay by using one of the Thailand Border run companys that take you to one of the borders and get you processed out and back in the country. Beyond that you should be looking at a longer term visa. Another possible option would be to be living in two countries in the area for 1-2 months at a time and alternating between them if Thailand isn't a must for you.

She get some security benefits that means if you were to leave her for another then you have some hoops to jump through in order to leave her and maintain your visa here

As Brandon mentioned, no need for Thai visa. Will need one for the other countries though. Suggest if coming visa exempt though to book a flight to your first destination outside of Thailand so that you can show your airline an outward bound flight if they ask. Some airlines will decline you from boarding if you don't have proof of onward travel within 30 days if you have no visa.

yes through the thai immigration website. You'll have to look for the online appointments button. It always takes me several minutes to find... sometimes its posted somewhere in this forum. I dont know it off by hand to send you though.

book your appointment time a few days in advanced and then bring all the required paper work. When your appointment time starts you can approach the counter and tell them you have appointment time and show your appointment notification that you got in your email. They will take you almost straight away jumping any queue that is sitting waiting

I typically red line train to IT Square then cross the road from IT square and walk about 100 metres towards immigration where I would catch the first motorcycle taxi stand on the road that immigration is on

this option does have a higher financial requirement to show evidence of over a 6 month period of bank statements so wont work for some people.
