This is what we received in email today. I don’t know what to do because 1) we are not returning to US, we are traveling for a while 2) does it have to be an air ticket? 3) since we applied for 6 month multiple entry visa does the ticket need to be at 60 days or 6 months? I’d appreciate any thoughtful assistance please.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the requirements for obtaining a six-month multiple entry visa to Thailand, particularly when applicants do not intend to return to their home country immediately. Key points include the necessity of providing outbound flight tickets within 60 days of arrival, or other proof of future travel plans, to demonstrate the need for multiple entries. Suggestions include booking flexible or onward tickets, using budget-friendly travel options such as bus or low-cost flights to neighboring countries, and utilizing platforms that offer cancellable tickets. The conversation highlights both the rules set by Thai authorities and the challenges faced by travelers in navigating these requirements.

Just buy a refundable ticket that meets the requirements.

I received the same request. I submitted my return ticket that shows my return home a month after I leave Thailand. No problem after that

All you have to do is show print of the trip. You don’t even have to buy it or show receipt. I did this before coming to Thailand.

Always need to show an exit ticket. Unless, you are doing a Visa Exempt, and they just don't ask for it. But whether they ask or not, you should have an outbound ticket.

Even if you have a Visa, you should carry a copy of your outbound ticket in case they ask. The Outbound ticket does not have to be back to your home country. Just out of Thailand.

Book a flight with Expedia - it can be refunded for 24 hours after booking.

Flights to/from Vietnam are a cheap option or if you can plan your first side trip ahead of time, then no wasted tickets.

Vietnam is actually a cheap side trip even for just a few days.

possibly but not everyone plans their trips to the minute . Like a little freedom to make choices. If I can’t stay then we will head to Vietnam then Laos or Cambodia. Girl friend can fly back and forth if she misses family 🙏🏻waited to long to retire to let anything spoil anything

In the past I have used bus tickets for onward travel but the last time when they were specific about "flights" I bought a cheap flight to Malaysia. Also worth noting that when I applied for my eVisa METV, when they asked for onward travel I provided it and gave them an explanation that I would traveling the region and not returning to my home country. My application was approved.

The instructions I got were 'Mail to ..." and in that email I attached my onward travel and a note. They said email to

, include in the subject line my full name as it appears in my passport. I went through the Thai Embassy, Washington DC (USA).

You may want to reach out to the Embassy processing your application.

I always advise that people use Skyscanner for their tickets out. Because you can choose "everywhere" as your destination and you can see the cheapest outward tickets from Thailand. They're usually to Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam in my experience and cost around 1500 - 2000thb.

Yes thanks. I understand that yet the very low cost will solve the issue originally posted. And/or may even prompt a trip to a place they hadn’t considered ;}

Do as Brandon suggests. No need for flight home as that date is so far out. Just in, out, then back in again is required. They already establish that you have a lot of funds due to the financial requirements.

You could book a bus ticket from BKK to phenom phen and back to Bkk.... Don't think it has to all be air travel.

Remember once you have the visa.

Point of entry, travel dates and method don't matter.

You only need to prove these things to obtain the visa.

So cancelable flights will solve the problem...

yes, of course cancellable flights are very expensive in comparison with non-cancellable.

It appears that tourists are not complaining to the rule-makers of the financial abuse caused. Looks like everyone just accepts it as a “Cost of doing business” in Thailand.

Google onward flights for the economical solution.

And yes the Thai govt sets the rules and we chose to accept them or go somewhere else.

I think they want to see proof that you’re going to leave and go home (at some point)

You have to justify your need for multiple entries. That means you need to provide the following:

A plane ticket from the country you applied in to Thailand.

A plane ticket out of Thailand within 60 days of arrival.

Another plane ticket back to Thailand within the 6 months of the visa validity.

This proves that you need multiple entries. Without this, you haven't shown the reason for a multiple entry visa. They will issue a single entry visa and keep the difference in price since there are no refunds.

that's up to you. You can still receive it as you applied while you were in the country you applied through. And the date will start from when it's issued. You cannot use it until you leave Thailand and return though.

Further to what Brandon says, buys a full price ticket from the airline, that way there is usually no cancellation fee. Don't get a refund until you have cleared immigration in Thailand
