Has anyone applied via soft power route at Kuala Lumpur (KL)? I have not been able to find any posts regarding this. I'm wondering what the requirements may be and how others have found apply via this route at KL? Thank you.
Hello, looking to apply for a DTV visa, though not in my home country. I’m currently in Bangkok. Do regional embassies charge the same amount for the visa/processing fees? Are some embassies more particular than others? My onward flight from Bangkok is to Kuala Lumpur—anyone applied at the embassy there? Thanks for the advice.
Hi everyone — hoping someone here has experience with this.
1. Can you withdraw an application? I've accepted I won't get my application fee back.
2. If not, can I go to another country an re-apply (basically with 2 active applications).
I currently have a DTV application in process through Kuala Lumpur, but they came back requesting additional documentation that is difficult for me to obtain even though I have everything. (minimum 6-month lease proof, contracts certfied by the embassy, etc...). From what I’ve seen online, KL seems to be one of the stricter posts. All the original requirements, I have along with the minumum funds amount.
I’m considering traveling to Bali and submitting a new DTV application there, since I’ve heard Indonesia tends to process them faster and with more straightforward document requirements.
My question is:
Has anyone successfully submitted a second DTV application in another country while an earlier one was still pending elsewhere?
I’m trying to avoid a formal rejection on my record if possible, but I’m not sure if the system allows two active applications tied to the same passport.
If anyone has firsthand experience with this (KL → Bali / another consulate), I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked.
Thanks in advance.
I am going to try to reach out to "withdraw" but not sure this will work. However, I am confident I will get approved quickly in Indonesia.
– Submitted on 22 Dec from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (I am Malaysian, remote worker route)
– Approved on 7 Jan (for five years, beyond my passport’s validity)
DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED
1. Cover Letter (Stating that I would: work remotely for an employer in Malaysia, abide by all rules and regulations of the DTV, contribute to the local economy, and to immerse myself in the local culture. Here I also listed out the required documents I am submitted).
2. New passport photo
3. Copy of biodata page of passport
4. Resume
5. Professional Portfolio
6. 6 months rental contract (all pages)
7. Proof of salary receipt in bank statements (highlighted)
8. Proof of THB 500,000 for 3 months (each month’s ending amount highlighted and converted into THB)
9. Malaysian employer’s registration cert (Notarised, then Attested at Foreign Ministry)
10. Employment Certificate, indicating role, company in Malaysia, ability to work remotely, indication of salary paid monthly - with company logo and signed by HR. (Notarised, then Attested at Foreign Ministry)
11. Proof of location - receipt from a local purchase dated 21 Dec with my name
12. Additional - not requested - 2025 summary of EPF (mandatory savings for Malaysians)
The above documents were split into two PDFs with a table of contents section as the first page for each to summarise what's in that specific PDF.
Please note: The system automatically removes your application after 14 days - I had no idea and started working on the form while I collected the different documents and that whole process took more than 14 days, only to come back to find my draft gone!
I also flew to Thailand the next day after submitting my application - which I was told is completely fine by the embassy staff, as long as I present myself at the embassy within 7 days if I am called in for an interview.
TIMELINE
22 Dec - submitted all docs.
1 Jan - Sent a message on the Thai embassy FB page in KL and said that I would kindly appreciate an update on my application (included my Request No.).
2 Jan 9am ish- Sent an email with the same as above to the KL Royal Thai Embassy
2 Jan 3.50pm - Received an email requesting additional docs (pic of all passport pages, my Malaysian ID, explain reason for DTV visa submission, explain your job and position and how it relates to DTV and remote worker). After submitting it, I sent an update that I have done the necessary via a DM to the same page mentioned above and emailed the embassy as well.
Someone here recently mentioned she received a response on her application after sending a DM to the embassy FB page, but her emails didn’t do much. I think the emails I sent did help, but who knows!
7 Jan - I sent an email to reply to their previous email to say thank you 🤣. Status changed to pending approval in the afternoon. DTV approved until Jan 2031 (my passport expires in 2029) a few hours after.
This group helped a lot, so just doing my part to give back to anyone that might be applying from Kuala Lumpur specifically. Happy to answer any questions below.
I hope to get some answers here from people who have experience with KL. (I read too late that it was the worst)
I applied for the DTV on the 06.11.2025 and they requested additional documents on the 10.11.2025 since there was a weekend in between. I uploaded all the documents the same day in the evening and since then heard nothing, no additional questions or requests.
But it's been 6 working days and since KL doesn't communicate I wanted to get some realistic time frames.
How long did it take for you guys to get approved after additional documents? I've read so many different things and really want only answers from people with KL experience.
