as a CAD, the embassy/consulate still does an affidavit of income so you don't need to deposit ฿800K in an account unless you choose. Still worthwhile to open an account. We found it easier to get the Non O from the Vancouver consulate before we got here, gave us a few months to get organized. It's easy enough to get the yearly extension on your own, if you are fine with some paperwork.

as a Canadian you can get an affidavit of income from the CAD Embassy in BKK with proof of income form from CRA. It's currently not necessary to deposit ฿800k in a Thai bank account.

Air Canada, United, Swiss, EVA and ANA... basically Star Alliance. Asked departing Canada, departing the US and in transit.

You also want to make sure you time it correctly and don't apply to soon, the 6 months starts running from the issue date and not your first entry to Thailand.

When boarding in Langkawi, they stamp you out of Malaysia and the captain keeps your passport. The ride is usually fine, weather depending. When you get to Lipe, the captain hands over all the passports and you wait around immigration to get called. This can take a long time depending on how many people/ferries arrived at one time.

we got the affidavit from our embassy which was based on one income. They also verified our marriage license. I'm not sure how it works if you are doing the banking method.

I think you are right and need to have your Non O prior to entering... at least that's what we were advised to do. I heard rumors that Phuket might allow it but based on your link that is incorrect.

we are both over 50 and I am able to be a "trailing spouse" on my husband's retirement extension.

Laos, Phnom Penh, Malaysia all do. I thought Vietnam did as well. Here is the link to the Hanoi Embassy, don't see where they need the resident's card. And if in Hanoi, check out Dream Beans... awesome egg coffee and great owners.

We both entered on Non O's obtained in our home countries, then on our first retirement extension I changed to trailing spouse. If you can produce a marriage certificate/license, your spouse can be added as a trailing spouse so only one of you has to provide a 800K THB bank account or pension.

We are CAD so were still able to get an affidavit of income and verification of our marriage license. Not sure if you need to get the marriage verified another way if the embassy doesn't. We did it ourselves and found it quite easy, just some paperwork and an hour at immigration for the extension.
