@Kri****
, I use Green Bus there and back... typically I depart 8:00 (VIP seat) from Chiang Mai and take the 14:30 bus back. That gives you about 2 hours in Mae Sai to get to the border via song Theaw (15 baht), stamp out, stamp in/out of Myanmar, stamp into Thailand, get some lunch and song theaw back to the bus station. You are permitted to go into Myanmar for a little shopping if you have the time and want to look around. The agent at the border will ask you if you plan to go shop (in which case they will keep your passport and give you a receipt to retrieve your passport on the way out) or, just head back into Thailand.

Bus tickets can be purchase on the Green Bus website (recommend you use VIP seats) and you can pay for the bus ticket at 7-11. The 7-11 receipt is your ticket. Just make sure you go to the correct bus station (Arcade Bus Station East of the city).

The other thing to consider is that if you have a yearly extension of stay, you still have to go to immigration every 90 days to report in. Thus, I agree with Tod and suggest you just take a little trip every 90 days.

is right (as usual). Green bus VIP is a great option if you're going from Chiang Mai. 8 AM to Mae Sai, 14:30 return. Book online and pay at 7-11.

I had no issues boarding plane from Toronto with a one-way ticket and tourist visa (korean air). If they give you any grief, just go to the airpaz.com site and find the cheapest flight out of thailand 60 days out and book it...but highly doubt you'll need it.

If there is any chance you will stay more than 4 months, I would HIGHLY recommend you get the 6 month multi entry tourist visa instead. This will entitle you to as many entries as you want within the 6 month validity of the passport giving you 60 days of stay permitted per entry.

Word of advice...you are already on an overstay. Getting caught in the country while on overstay can be really bad (jail time). Go get a new tourist visa tomorrow. Getting a company to give you the proper paperwork for a non-b visa will take time and you're on borrowed time already.

As Thomas said, it depends. Also depends on how long the overstay was; if it was a long time, for example 90 days, they would have a mandatory 1 year ban. Best they apply for a real visa at the embassy/consulate where they live before trying to enter the country.

Starts from when you re-entered the country (November 5 + 90 days).

If you are staying at a private residence, it is required by law (read the article). That being said, unless you have to deal with immigration (extension, 90 day report), no one is going to care. And even if you do have to deal with immigration, it depends on the immigration office you deal with.

Hotels have the ability to do it online so they do it for all guests when they check in.
