TLDR : Answer Summary
For a trip to Phuket lasting 4 months, you can book a one-way flight without a return ticket. Various visa options exist, including securing a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) from a Thai consulate, which can be extended for an additional 30 days in Thailand for 1,900 Baht. Alternatively, you may enter Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption. If you need more time, you can leave the country for a day and re-enter to receive a new 30-day stamp.
Im from Seattle and use skyscanner to book out of Vancouver. I do one way trips. I have done a 30 day stamp and two non immigrant O for volunteer jobs. Or get a 60 day tourist and extend for another 30 days for 1900 Bhat.
Yes. I just did this. I went to Penang Malaysia. There is a consulate there. And Penang is an island, so it's beautiful. Stay a few days, explore the islands and get your Visa! Then come back to Thailand. But....You as a Canadian can also get a 30 days stamp again and then extend it.
Icic Rocky. Now if im planning to say for 4 months. Would i be able to extend my stay after 60 days by leaving the country and coming back after a couple days?
You cannot get a Thai Visa in Thailand. You can get a 30 exempt stamp and stay for 30 days and then extend it for 1900 Bhat. That would be your 60 days.
If you've been before you know the routine. Go to the consulate in Edmonton and they only want to see your ticket to Thailand. No return needed. Easy to obtain a 60 day SETV. Probably the easiest place in the world. Extend in Thailand for another 30 day. Airline will ask for return ticket maybe but the visa is their protection. You state you will be traveling overland after your visa expires. That's the simplest, or just show up with a return ticket and get 30 days visa exemption stamp. Shouldn't have a problem but nothing is guaranteed in this world.
I had no issues boarding plane from Toronto with a one-way ticket and tourist visa (korean air). If they give you any grief, just go to the airpaz.com site and find the cheapest flight out of thailand 60 days out and book it...but highly doubt you'll need it.
If there is any chance you will stay more than 4 months, I would HIGHLY recommend you get the 6 month multi entry tourist visa instead. This will entitle you to as many entries as you want within the 6 month validity of the passport giving you 60 days of stay permitted per entry.
