Should I Transfer My Entry Stamp to My New Passport or Exit and Re-enter Thailand With the New Passport?

I purchased a new passport while here in Thailand (old one was full). My TV 60 day entry ends Jan 30. The METV visa is expired. I've read that I have to get my existing entry stamp transferred to my new passport or will have issues leaving (either for a trip or to get a new visa). I have also read I can just leave and stamp back in on the new passport.

Should I get it transferred or just exit/enter?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether to transfer their entry stamp from their old passport to a new one, given their tourist visa status and upcoming expiration dates. Comments suggest transferring the stamp is necessary if applying for an extension, while simply exiting and re-entering may be an option if no extension is needed. Caution is advised regarding potential issues with Thai immigration upon re-entry.

May I add caution...if you have a recent history of living in Thailand with METV, Tourist Visas With extensions...and possible border runs....

You may have difficulty getting a new Tourist Visa in SE Asia Thai Consulates.

A new passport does not guarantee entry upon arrival as you may be questioned by Thai Immigration.

If you need a few more months to sort.thongs out, do two land border runs with 30 days extensions...that well give you added 4 months to get your Non O for retirement sorted.

Do NOT FLY into Thailand. Greater risk of questioning upon arrival. Good luck.

Thanks Robert.... I will not be applying for an extension.

if you want an Extension of Stay, visit before 30 jan your Immigration office with both passports and the Embassy letter. Or if you like to leave Thailand before or on 30 Jan, take both passports and leave.

In theory, you need to move your entry stamp.

If you are going to apply extension for your entry from tourist for 30days, you need to move current stamp to new passport then apply extension. You need to bring the letter from your embassy/consulate.

If you are not applying extension and just leaving Thailand, usually no problem to just leave. Make sure Bring the letter along your old passport, IO at passport control upon your departire would give you departure stamp into your new passport.

As you have a letter from your embassy ...just go to the next immigration and let them put your new in the system....as you are in the computer with all history ...

Did you get your retirement visa or extension yet? As you were planning to getting it in December?

In Hua Hin or Chiang Mai ...as you spoke about both locations?

I'm not married to a Thai. Will be trying again for the Non-O conversion in a month.

No. I meet all the requirements but ran into issues getting documents so could not apply.
