I'm planning to convert my METV to a Non-O based on retirement at Chiang Mai immigration. Does anyone know how long my 800K baht needs to seed for? I know it's 3 months for extension but some people say it doesn't need to be seeded that long for the initial non-O. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The initial application or conversion of a METV to a Non-O visa does not require the 800K baht to be seasoned for any specific duration, as long as the funds are transferred from abroad with appropriate bank documentation. However, for an extension based on retirement, the funds need to be maintained for a period of at least 2 months prior to the application and for 3 months afterward.

Hi Guys, for this conversion can you tell me what documents are required please, to be able to convert inside Thailand. Thanks for your help

a Visit to your Immigration Office with your passport. There you ask if that office is capable and allowed to do this conversion, not all of the 70 plus offices are. If the answer is yes, ask the hand out with the latest and updated requirements, copy them one by one and tick the list. When done you can apply.

For the Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age it is at least 2 months prior application date until at least 3 months after application date and the rest of the year not lower then 400.000 Thb.

You can now show the latest rule, if they do not like and keep telling 3 months you can appeal. but you don't make friends in that office.

@Robert ******
thanks.

I will try again this month but that was in force in May when I was handed the attachment I provide.

It was pushed into my hand with a cursory grunt and told "not my problem".

My concern is that under your advise someone may "seed" for 2 months when 3 is required in Sukhothai and, possibly, Mae Sot and others.

Robert Lagas, for the previous 10 years on Non-O AGE extensions Mae Sot, and now Sukhothai, immigration have required 800k baht in my account for 3 MONTHS prior to extension.

I have questioned this on occasions with the same answer. Even as recently as May this year I was given a print-out of the new rules and that STATED 3 months prior.

Never have I had the luxury of 2 months.

Correct, no seasoning needed for application or conversion into the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age. But the money need to come from abroad and this must be acknowledged with a letter from the bank.
