TLDR : Answer Summary
The overland visa exemption in Myanmar currently allows for a stay of 30 days, and it can be obtained twice within a calendar year at the Mae Sai border. There is also a fee of THB 500 or a new USD 10 bill required for this process.

@Amor****
is right (as usual). Green bus VIP is a great option if you're going from Chiang Mai. 8 AM to Mae Sai, 14:30 return. Book online and pay at 7-11.
