So.. Last year, when I tried to pay for my medical insurance, I got an error message in the bank app, saying i need to visit the bank.

I went to the local Krungthai and was told that new banking regulations forbid foreigners transfering more than 50,000 per transfer...

My daily transfer limit was 1,500,000 per day, so just did 2 transfers and haven't really thought about it since...

A few days ago, i mentioned this to an accountant and she spoke to me with disbelief, as tho I'm an idiot, because nobody else has ever heard of this... Saying I just need to go in and change the limit...

I went to the local Krungthai branch and was told that thai banking regulations forbid foreigners, transfering more than 50,000 per transfer and if I need to transfer more, i need to do more than one transfer, or withdraw the cash and transfer by hand.... So if i need to transfer 800,000, I can do 16 transfers or withdraw the cash...

I went to the provincial branch and they said pretty much the same... Thai Banking regulations forbid foreigners transfering more than 50,000 in the app... ( "in the app" is a significant change.) If I need to transfer more, I can do in the bank... Slightly different story, but better than the local branch.

I went to the provincial branch of Bangkok Bank, asked to change the transfer limit and it was done, instantly, no question asked...

Has anyone else experienced this nonsense, and which banks do or don't allow transfers of more than 50,000 baht?

Just a head up for people with a Barclays Premier account in the UK.

Transfers are free from these accounts to a Thai Bank account.

Before you start

To complete an international payment you’ll need:

a PINsentry device

the IBAN or SWIFTBIC number of the bank you’re paying intoThey will

let you know how long the payment will take and if there are any charges before you confirm.

Today’s exchange rate is 42.93 GBP to the Baht

I know this doesn’t suit everyone but it’s for information purposes only

Also if you are trying to transfer 800k baht in from wise you can only do this in 50k baht increments so it’s a. Minimum of 16 transactions at approximately £8 for each one.

I’ll let everyone do the maths on this one

Hi Banking question for you knowledgeable folks

I have an account with Krungsri Bank which unfortunately limits transfers via Wise to 50k baht per transaction I’m in the US now so considering transferring a larger amount via IBAN (bank to bank) Am I still restricted on the amount and will I benefit in regards to fees? Thanks

Re-registration and photo to send more than 50,000 baht for an internal transfer.

Just so people are aware, K-bank has no requirement for foreign account holders to do this. You can still send whatever you apply in the app.

Only Thais need to register now.

I've just had a long drawn out conversation at their head office in Bangkok about it.

This only applies to K-bank account holders.

I've no idea what other Thai banks require.
