Hi, just wondering if the banks have changed the amount you can transfer from abroad, I was using wise and this message popped up. I never read about a change. I thought the max was 50k apart from the big 3 banks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There have reportedly been changes to the limits and rules around transferring money from abroad to Thai banks. Some users mention a recent adjustment allowing higher amounts for transfers but requiring verification via a phone call or in-branch visit. The standard limit of 50,000 Baht is still common, especially for newer accounts or certain banks, but users have shared instances of successfully transferring much higher amounts without issue, particularly with larger banks like Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank. Additionally, there are mentions of potential taxation on foreign transfers to be aware of. Overall, experiences can vary significantly depending on the bank and individual account status.

Nothing changed.

Max transfer defaults at 50k but you can change that. Now the banks want you to come in and verify ID and take a photo.

And 5 000 000 to my bank 🙏

If I was sending 2 million, I’d do a wire transfer with a SWIFT code.

I have had the worse incident with Krasikorn. I transferred money from my Wise account to a Krungskri Bank account it so happens that Krungskri is using Krasikorn as an intermediary for international transfers to Thailand.

The money never arrived. It took 14 days for Krasikorn to trace it and return it to Wise.
Alan ******
Wise limits are self imposed.
Roger ********
No sure what the limit is but I recently sent ฿1M to GSB.

Other banks is doing a lot of work here. There are now only 4 other banks supported.

Krung Thai Bank

CIMB Thai Bank

Bank Of Ayudhya (Krungsri bank)

Kiatnakin Phatra Bank

I thought they had stopped and froze foreign held bank accounts?
David **********
@Pierre-Paul *******
Some accounts held by foreigners on short term visas were frozen. Those with long term retirement visas were unaffected.

I send $10k (~฿340k) when rates are good to KBank and have never had a problem.

Don't forget the income tax on foreign transfers.
Tyler *******
@Ken *******
Who are you, the IRS? Let people worry about their own taxes.
Ken ********
@Tyler ******
I'm just saying that because some people aren't aware that Thailand is now taxing funds that are transfered into the Country, with exceptions.

late last month I saw dude did 1.2mil baht single transact on kasikorn mobile banking, he is a foreigner. Also saw different person but exact nationality with same bank couldn’t even do more than 50k.

Thailand is slippery place.

@Kaung **********
you have to set up with the Bangkok BANK. The amount that you are allowed to transfer 50,000 is the standard if you want to do up to 200,000. You have to process it through your branch and they will take a picture of you and your passport send to Bangkok headquarters and verify and then you will be able to to do 200,000.

@David ***************
not sure about bkk bank. I mostly use kasikorn bank. Honestly I think they have a system that try to profile accounts and limitation were set on place.

@David ***************

Though best keep transfers lower as foreign currency is constantly fluctuating depending on country governments & world issues. Unless your China which creates their currency on the dime manipulating it’s value.

Canada also. And yes, about the ability to print money and grow debt. We are plenty guilty of that also

*can’t do anything about Apple iOS’s garbage autocorrect vocabulary/ grammar. Both iOS & Mac OS are amongst the worst operating systems, still the “ix” are most friendly & efficient.
Thaimer ******
@Dwayne *******
yes, you can. I have IPhone and auto correct off.
Dwayne ********
@Thaimer *****
another clarification as I was distracted. Having an “iPhone” is meaningless as its just a device. Was referring to software which most people are ignorant of, everything is about variables of which again most people poorly educated are ignorant of.
Dwayne ********
@Thaimer *****
an option but social media isn’t worth rereading what you wrote just to appease the anal reader. Regardless we are off topic & respectfully to poster rather pointless to discuss.
Dave ********
You have to call them .. then they give you one hour and unlimited or 1 to 2 mil max to send

But have to call was time ... At least for scb anyway
Stuart *********
@Dave *******
That’s for internal transfers. The OP was asking about overseas transfers using Wise
Brandon ************
Yes, they changed it just a few weeks ago. But they also stopped allowing transfers to a bunch of banks at the same time.
