Why is the transfer limit at K Bank for foreigners capped at 50,000 Baht?

I have account in K Bank. I tried to increase the transfer limit from 50k TB on the bank app.But would not let me. I called to KBank today to ask them to increase it. Was told 50,000tb is maximum transfer for all foreigners. Anyone else have this problem. I don't have same issue with Bangkok bank.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Users report that the maximum daily transfer limit for foreigners using K Bank is set at 50,000 THB, which has become a point of frustration among expats. Several commenters have suggested alternative banking options like Bangkok Bank, where limits may be higher. Many report that to transfer amounts exceeding this limit, one may need to visit the bank in person for a face scan or verification, as changes in bank policy due to recent regulations have impacted foreigners differently compared to Thai nationals. Experiences vary, with some users managing to increase their limits through the app or branch visits while others face roadblocks.

I went to my Kasikorn Bank yesterday August 5th. Transfered £12K into my Bangkok Bank. Needed to sign several lots of paperwork, needed passport and bank books. Took almost 45 min at the desk, they also needed my wife's I.D. I tried the same with the app but 50K is the limit and they advise you to go to the bank. All sorted now but it was abit of an effort. But the banks need to be sure because there is so much scamming and fraud going on and you don't want to loose your money. But I must say to everyone reading my post, there is one hell of alot of misinformation on this site, even from people who think they know all the visa rules. I've been misinformed at least 8 times. If you want to know the exact upto date visa rules, go and ask an agent as the rules are changing all the time!

agents don't know the rules either when they're changing fast. And most agents only know the rules for the single immigration office they work with. Plus they get to ignore many of the rules so don't know the actual rules

Listen up, guys. He’s saying that the 50,000 baht limit seems too low because he needs to transfer more than 50,000. But he’s also clearly saying that he has money in a Thai bank, okay?

So all the people talking nonsense—chronic dyslexics—saying he should use Wise or any other app like D-Money, Western Union, etc., seriously, shut your mouths or stop drinking alcohol.

He’s not talking about switching apps or finding alternatives. He’s talking about the transfer limit in the Thai bank. Got it? Good.

Now I’m going to answer him, because I’ve been through it: I went to the bank, spoke to the head office from there, and they told me they’d send a notification in two days.

And two days later, the notification said no, that 50,000 was fine—and that I had to deal with it.

I hope now you understand. Have a good day.

And to the dyslexics: stop drinking alcohol or buy better glasses so you can read.

Had to sign few papers and she also photo copied my passport and the debit card said there will be sms in 2-3 days asked if there is chance for reject she said yes but the account isn't abnormal so it should be ok.

Face recog is just for the app limit not debit

Forgive my ignorance here, I’m new to Thailand so this. Pretty unique way of doing banking business is new to me 😵‍💫😵‍💫

So if I wanted to buy a car from a garage in excess of 500K does that mean I can’t transfer that amount in one go 🥴🥴 are you able to do this from a bank physically going?

I have a KBank account and my transfer limit was reset down to 50K. But I increased it in the app with no problems last week. I did need to use face verification scans both tobincrease the limit and then for each transfer over 50k (I setup the face scan in the bank branch some time ago).

Anything over 50,000 you have to do a face scan and this as to be set up in branch. I got a message to call in my branch to update and do a face scan for my mobile app. The teller then told me if a need to go above 50,000 baht I'd have to verify with a face scan

I have a kbank account and when you go into a branch they will attempt to set it up but it will be flagged by the system and state it can't be activated when trying to increase limit above 50k, the only way to transfer more than 50k right now is to call and have them temporarily increace the limit for a few hours.

Ok. Couple of things here to keep in mind. The OP isn’t trying to transfer funds INTO their Thai bank. They are trying to transfer more than 50k from their bank to someone else’s.

This is a newish rule that doesn’t affect only K Bank but most. It has something to do with the facial recognition system the banks are using to allow transfers over 50k. This system doesn’t yet support use by foreigners.

Different banks have implemented different policies to get around this. My bank SCB used to have you go into the branch to sign a waiver that you’d allow transfers over that amount. Last month they said that would no longer work and you’d have to called their call centre to override the limit for a set period of time.

I’m sure other banks have similar systems in place rather than you actually having to go into a branch to transfer - but I can’t confirm this as I don’t have account with others.

SCB have said they are working on a “workaround” but haven’t got there yet.

If Bangkok Bank haven’t implemented this yet I’m sure they will soon. Perhaps not but we will have to wait and see.

Dear also to me, I use to have limit of 200k, but few months ago reduced to 49.900 a month. The funny think was that last month I had to fight with call center because limit was reduce to 1000 a day, then bank told me to bring passport a bank book( I not understood why always we have to pruve our identity on our account) to ask to increase again, two day and went back to 49.900 baht a day. So, isn't only you, might be reason that we don't know , but I think can transfer , not by scan, bank to bank account with no limit, otherwise if someone wants to buy a car, for example, for is gonna buy with 49.900 baht? For more clarification, go bank or give a phone call to the call center.
