Why does transferring larger amounts of money to Kasikorn Bank via Wise take longer than smaller amounts?

Am I doing something wrong with Wize? I transfer money from USA to Kasikorn Bank with Wize. I can transfer up to $200 and it posts in seconds but if I transfer a larger amount it takes several days to post. Im not sure where the cutoff is but my last transaction was $800 and it took 5 days (although two were weekend days) and it initially stated the transaction would take 7 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When transferring money from the USA to Kasikorn Bank using Wise, users have reported significant delays with larger amounts, sometimes taking several days, while smaller transfers often post almost instantly. Factors contributing to longer transfer times include bank restrictions, weekends, and initial transfer limits. Many users recommend transferring smaller amounts during banking hours for faster processing. There is also a consensus that issues often stem from the receiving bank rather than Wise itself. It's suggested to deposit funds into Wise first and then transfer to the Thai bank for quicker transactions.

Only had that problem when send to a new account, if send to before small or big transfer only takes second even when I'm in Thailand or UK

I think it depends on your US bank. Schwab $1000 was instant, but $2000 takes days. From Principal, $1000 is taking 4 days. Once in Wise, converting and sending

thb to Kasikorn takes seconds.

Problems are mostly at the Thai end and mostly because of weekends. But recently we have had a lot of public holidays and those built around the idea ox extending weekends. I always try to transact on Mondays or Tuesdays. Even normally quite often Friday transactions create problems at the Thai end.

What funding method are you using?

I gave Wise access to my checking account so they can see I have the money when I do a transfer. That tends to make it almost instant.

If you use a funding method where they cannot verify the funds instantly, they may need to wait until they actually receive the funds to do the transfer.

yesterday I transferred 50,000 baht and I received it in seconds. if I wanted to transfer 60,000, it would take 5 to 7 days also was more expensive significantly so. yeah I went with the 50,000.

only had trouble once with wise on a transfer. otherwise they have been true to their word.

I see someone else has already touched on this. In my early days with Wise, I would start the transaction, save it, then get the money transferred from my bank to Wise. It could take forever by this method. Once I went to making sure the money was already with Wise, then doing the transaction it's only ever been a few minutes, sometimes seconds. Hope that makes sense.

Wise post the transfer time. I had a similar thing happen for an entire day wise stated 5 days to transfer, so I tried the following day and the transfer went in minute. This happened to me twice.

So Wise also trades money on the forex markets. Which are a Monday thru Friday thing. They buy various currencies to store inside their accounts. They keep a nominal amount of cash for business day purposes. If they have plenty of money in said cash account then the transfer is almost instant.

If you initiate the transfer on the weekend when forex trading is closed. Then they want to protect cash level in their account because they currently cannot buy anymore until forex trading opens.

I personally now only do transfers Tuesday through Friday Thai time. And take into consideration if there is a holiday keeping the markets closed. Since adopting this method every transfer has been instant.

nice theory but it’s all do do with the Thai banks not wise. Send to the purple bank and it’s instant every day of the week including weekends if I send to Bangkok bank over the weekend it won’t arrive till Monday.

I looked at the rates for large amounts with Wise and a direct wire to K-bank, it was pretty much a wash with what wise takes and the exchange rate with a 25 usd charge. I use Wise for smaller amounts and it works fine, in seconds. The wire for large amounts took 2 days, but I have a recourse with the bank by talking directly with someone, I have heard that Wise is not easy to talk directly to.

Depends on the Thai bank account you have service with. Siam Commercial Bank was quick, a $1,000. 00 I sent on Dec. 30th took only a couple seconds to complete the transaction and it was already approved and ready for use immediately before I even noticed that.

I send £10k at a time with wise to Kasikorn it sends instantly. Sometimes the notification comes up that it’s sent before I even put the phone down. My wise was setup in the UK. Don’t know if that makes a difference or not?

It depends on a few factors, but especially the way you're funding the transaction, such as debit card, direct debit, credit card, manual transaction. Another thing is to send it directly into your wise currency account and then convert in Wise and forward it onto your Thai bank. If you're experiencing a delay then play with the amounts and find out what the maximum you can send for an immediate transfer is. Are there factors are weekends, holidays, and if you use Bangkok Bank on the receiving end.

It could be your putting the reason for transfer as different things. If you put down the reason as being for property purchase. It goes in as an international transfer & takes longer 😉

It depends on a lot of things. How often you transfer, if your account is new or older, then it depends on banks as well. Ive transferred a few hundred thousand baht and it take seconds, sometimes it takes a few days.

Also. I feel like wise gives you a score for your account. Ive sent 10,000 usd before in seconds. One time I selected the wrong account to transfer from. And it came back insufficient funds. After that for like a year I couldn't send over 1000 usd instantly anymore. I can now. Theres also a section for high value transfers too.

I think it’s depend on the amount and also when is the transfer done. If the amount is small and during office hour (Thailand time), it’s within minutes. Doing it after office hour or weekends will usually means one or two working days or more if coincide with holiday

It's the bank! If you transfer to wise first then move to Thailand when you need it it takes seconds. Depending on your Thai Bank you could send a large amount that way. In the USA wise pays interest on your account.

I have learnt that you never send larger amounts over a weekend even from Wise. It will be your local bank setting restrictions. Just check all your limits for daily transactions

The problem is probably with your bank or your understanding of how it works. I am canadian, my bank will allow an instant transfer of up to 3000$ can(roughly 75 000 thb), if more than that, I nedd to pay à bill ( like electricity) and it takes about 3 days. An instant transfer(interact) will cost more

Something doesn’t seem right. For the last year and a half I’ve made (2) ฿35,000 transfers back to back straight from my bank in the US to my Krungthai account. Every transfer has been instant except maybe two months where it took about one to two hours. Check with your bank.
