Krungsri Bank( yellow one ) seem to be generally better at opening bank accounts for farang. Once you hit 50 get an O-A visa from your own country. You can get 2 years off this if you play it right.

Can I go directly to security and immigration at BKK with a self-printed boarding pass from Malaysian Airlines?

I check in online most of the time, print my own boarding pass and go directly to security/Immigration on arrival at the airport with my handheld luggage. They generally give you, your passport and boarding pass a good looking over when you leave the departure lounge and board the aircraft.

Yep Thai notary is ok to certify paperwork. 1000b per signature is usually the cost, here in Phuket anyway.
