I have a Thai friend living in Australia. She has 2 passports, an Aussie one and a Thai one. She is visiting Thailand soon for around 9 months then will return to Aus.

Which passport should she use?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A dual citizen should use their Thai passport when entering Thailand for a visit, as it aligns with immigration regulations. Upon returning to Australia, they should use their Australian passport. Comments suggest it's common practice for dual citizens to use the most appropriate passport based on their travel requirements and to enter and exit countries respectively without any issue.

I’m Thai & Australian . I hold both passports and live in Thailand permanently and just went back to Aus for Christmas . I had to book my return ticket in my Australian passport and on leaving at the airport I just went through the Thai queue at immigration and gave them both passports as I live here as a Thai and was stamped out on my Thai passport . On entry to Aus I just scanned my Aus passport and on return to Thailand at Thai immigration I scan my Thai passport. They link them up so it’s a no brainer.

I’ve got German/Australian. I always enter and exit Australia on the Australian.

When I enter any other country I use the best one for the situation. Anywhere in Europe is German one obviously for example.

I think your question is more based on the fact that you were not sure if you have to use the same passport for the same flight. Is that right? That’s never the case. I’ve even been in Thailand on my Australian passport and done a visa run to KL and entered Malaysia with my German passport.

It doesn’t matter.

Use what works best and doesn’t cause headaches.

Enter and exit Thailand on the Thai passport.

I'll bite, Thai one to enter Thailand, Aussie one to enter Australia? Why would you want to make it more difficult?
