Currently on an O-A visa (multi entry) coming up to one year living here. Are things still the same regarding stepping out of the country and returning just before the visa expires, obtaining another year on entry back into Thailand? TIA. ๐Ÿค”

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can maintain your O-A visa status by exiting and re-entering Thailand as long as your visa is valid. When you return, you will typically receive a new stamp for another year. It's essential to ensure that you enter before your visa expiration date and present a valid health insurance policy upon re-entry to comply with regulations.

It will be stamped in line with the expiry date of your health insurance as long as previous extension still in date and a new insurance obtained and presented to the immigration officer.

I can tell you zi used AXA and it was 8000 baht

for one year. I chose their highest deductable under the Easy Care Visa Plan.

only 8.000 baht? Sounds very little.

The initial A-O comes as METV but for the second 365 days you will need to buy the multi-entry stamp, correct?

From what I understand is you buy a re-entry permit at the airport when you are departing which allows you back in on your return, not sure of the cost of these. Someone will know.

Sweet. I've purchased a cheap return flight to KL so will stamp in there then stamp straight back out and return to Phuket same day.

A visa doesn't change.

As long as you enter Thailand before the end date on the visa that was issued by the embassy, and as long as you purchase a new year of insurance, you'll be stamped in for 1 year (or until the end of your insurance if less than a year)
Stephan ***********
Still the same... as long as your visa is valid you'll get stamped 365 days on every entry.

@Stephan **********
how many times can you do that?

@Mark *******
Unlimited... O/A is a multiple entry visa. It has an expiration date... that's the last possible day for re-enter with a new 365 day stamp.

wow I did not know that. So just to clarify..I came in on an OA Visa. I will step out a week before the original OA expires and then step back in to Thailand. I get stamped in for a second year so long as I have the required insurance. The end of second year I can do it again..for a third year and after the third year do it again for a fourth year. Just so long as I have insurance organised each time?

@Mark *******
Nope... that's not how it works... sadly. After that mentioned date you don't have a valid visa anymore, so... enter on that day will give you 365 days for the last time on this visa. An O/A is good for maximum (almost) two years... that's it.
