Quick question for you frequent flyers - if I check in online (departing Bangkok on Malaysian Airlines), have no checked luggage and self print my boarding pass, can I go directly to security/immigration at BKK? Malaysian Airlines have said it is OK but I am concerned that the immigration guys might turn me round if I don't have the airline printed boarding pass. Cheers for any advice...

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can go directly to security and immigration at Bangkok's BKK airport with a self-printed boarding pass from Malaysian Airlines if you have no checked luggage. Many travelers confirmed that they successfully bypassed the check-in process and headed straight to security. Having a boarding pass indicates that you are checked in, which is typically sufficient for entry into the departure hall.

Update - I was able to check-in online, print my boarding passes and go straight to security/immigration at BKK with no checked bags (bypassing the airport check-in process). Gave me about 40 bonus minutes in the airport bar by my reckoning..

You can do that . Having a boarding pass means you are checked in and if you don’t have luggage why would you need to see the airline counter anyway ?. I ve done it many times with thai airways coming into Bangkok .

I check in online most of the time, print my own boarding pass and go directly to security/Immigration on arrival at the airport with my handheld luggage. They generally give you, your passport and boarding pass a good looking over when you leave the departure lounge and board the aircraft.

Does anybody of the airline check if your passport and visa are correct, like Garrett mentions?
