I've heard of several people doing the land border run through Malaysia via the train.
Everything is pretty smooth with immigration this way, as the immigration office is used to many of the people from Malaysia coming and going into Thailand.
And from what I gather, because usually everybody crossing the border here is getting on the train, they don't really waste time dilly-dallying on other things like harassing foreigners on small details, nor bribes π
This Padang Besar Train Immigration just opened up when covid restrictions started easing a few months ago...
On the other hand, a few hundred meters away is the Land Border Crossing Immigration Office to Thailand, and I have definitely heard of difficulties crossing there...
... I speak Thai decently & spoke with Phuket immigration office 103's younger staff yesterday...
Actually, they told me that if I am living with a friend who has the lease contract, this can work too for applications.
All the same Residential Documents, under the Leasee, as before still required, along with an additional letter from the Leasee declaring that the applicant is living with them. The letter needs to include:
- full passport details of both people
- details of the rental premises
- signed and dated by both
Likewise, they also said that the applicant's resident can also be a hotel versus a home, with a 6-month lease, and MAYBE 3 months... Don't you just love how well defined information is coming from immigration π
Conclusion: Non-O applicants DO NOT need a lease agreement to apply if above can work... Note, this was only asked at Phuket immigration
Hi Stuart Cumming ... I'm waiting for my new passport, which should arrive about 10 days before the Visa step expires. Unfortunately, I only noticed I was lacking the 6th month validity too late. π My bad...
So what options are there t o convert my 45 day entry visa to a Non-O?
Since I'm past the 15-21 days left, It looks like I have to EITHER:
1. get another 45 day Visa OR
2. pay B1,900 for a Visa and extension
... and THEN apply for the non-o, correct?
3. Maybe an agent can get it done with out exciting thailand still
Since all the other Non-O immigrant applications requires a passport valid for at least 60 months... I'm guessing it would be the same for this retirement visa too... Any experience?
...Mine just got under 6 months validity π
Once the Non-O via is approved, I'm assuming this would be for a 90 day stay, is it possible to leave the country, without this visa expiring, before applying for the 1 year extension of this visa?
