TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry pertains to the possibility of a spouse obtaining a Non-O visa in Thailand based on the husband's Non-O retirement visa. Recent information suggests that following a spouse's retirement visa (specifically a 'piggyback' application) is typically allowed only after the husband has obtained a one-year extension of stay. The user is currently seeking to apply in Penang after facing difficulties at the Laos embassy and is looking for updated information on the required application documents and other considerations.

Generally they won’t give you a “piggyback” non O until your husband is on his one year extension of stay.

when you get this info?

this is correct. Your husband needs to be on a long term extension (12 months) before you can get a trailing spouse visa which will match the dates on your husband's extension.

no this is not true.

until your husband gets his extension in Thailand, if you're under 50yrs old, you're not going to get a Non O visa anywhere.

Once he has his extension, you can then apply outside of Thailand for your Non O, enter Thailand go to immigration and apply to piggy back on his extension.

no that is untrue.

It depends on the embassy whether they will do it.

For example Canadian and US e-visa is no problem.

Husband applies first gets 90 day non -0 based on retirement.

Wife then applies as trailing spouse will get 90 day non -0 also.

Then after arrival can extend one year.

Not all Embassies and immigration offices have the same rules.

I am from Canada and my husband just got his Non-O visa based on retirement. However when I applied for my Non-O visa as a trailing spouse, I was denied. They say that only if my husband would have applied for Non-OA thwn I could get my non-O visa. The offered me a 6 months multiple tourist visa instead, which I will take and then when my husband gets his 1 year extension in Thailand, I will go out to near Consulate and tey to get Non-O visa trailing spouse

just a follow up for anyone watching this thread.

Found the issue and now they are working on the solution.

Problem Not related to the original post.

Sorry for the high jacking.

@Andreea *****
that is very odd.

I'd be interested I seeing the communication or reason for denial.

Having done this exact process already.

did you do it through Vancouver consulate or Ottawa embassy? I heard of people from Vancouver getting it however that what we got info from the Ottawa embassy because we live in Ottawa. And trust me, there was no miscommunication at all, the lady just didn't want ro give it to me period. Even after phone conversation denial, I sent email and had few back and forth emails and still she kept declining and explaining that they cannot offer me a Non-O visa as a spouse/dependant because my husband applied for Non-O visa instead of Non-OA. So frustrating .....
