TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on the necessary documentation for renewing an OA Retirement Visa in Thailand. Required documents include a completed TM7 form, proof of funds in a Thai bank account for at least three months, health insurance from an approved provider, passport copies, photos, and additional bank documentation. Comments clarify that while health insurance is mandatory for OA extensions, it is not required for Non-O extensions. Additionally, there's mention of options for switching from OA to Non-O visas.

I'm retrospect, it seems better to switch to an O-retirement visa from my current OA Retirement Visa...

Anyone know if a health insurance package is required to EXTEND an O-Visa?

Thanks to everyone for commenting so far...

from what I remember inquiring last year, both OA & O extensions need a health insurance package when applying. (From replies below, I'm wrong here)...

I got my OA from my home country in 2019...

Actually, does anyone have any info on switching from OA to O retirement visa? How is it done?

no health insurance is required for the O extension, only for the OA. If you're currently on an extension of an OA you should in theory be able to leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, come back in on a tourist visa then apply for a Non-O visa inside Thailand by transferring in 800k from overseas (or using an income affidavit from your embassy if they provide that). That gets you a 90 day visa which you can then extend as you normally do but without the insurance requirement.

... So:

60 days tourist visa

90 days non-O visa

365 days O-visa extension

Correct?

Doesn't the 1 year O-visa extension require the same health package as OA extension?
John **********
@Meno ****
correct on everything except the last point. No insurance required. You can also come back visa exempt but the visa allows you more time
John **********
You get a 90 day Non-O visa and then you do annual extensions on that in the same way you do now, just with no insurance requirement.

... Extend to an O-visa correct? ... Which lasts for how long? 1 year?

... Sounds pretty straight forward... & much better than caring an OA...

I think i didn't do it last year coz I didn't want to leave the country last year due to COVID-19

OA extension requires health insurance as well.

You need to go to the relevant consulate. Yes you need insurance from one of the consulates preferred suppliers

Just out of interest,why wouldn't you just get non O and get health insurance if you want it ?
Maryanne ********
@Russell ******
leave cash in country to earn interest

@Maryanne *******
... Unfortunately 👎

But there's always a downside

@Maryanne *******
You mean leave the money in your home country instead of having to deposit it into a Thai bank as under a non-O? And this leaving it in your home country also works for the non-OA extension if done inside Thailand?
John **********
@Alex ******
nope. For extensions on an OA the rules are the same as for an O except insurance is still required. A new OA can only be obtained in your home country
Maryanne ********
@Alex ******
for O visa you need to have a large sum in Thai Bank but it gets no interest. With OA visa, you don't need a large amount of cash in a Thai bank, so that money can stay in Australia and earn interest. Either way you need that money in a bank account to meet Non O or non OA visa. So if you want health insurance and to earn interest on your lump sum required for either visa, then get OA. If you don't mind losing a bit of interest by having that lump sum in a Thai bank and much cheaper insurance then go O visa. Many people convert from O to O as the approved insurance policies are very expensive and possibly it'd be cheaper overall to get O visa. Australia doesn't offer O visa, only OA. O you get within Thailand.

@Maryanne *******
... So why would anyone get an OA Visa?

Seems like there's only a downside in comparison to getting an O Visa... with the health insurance package requirement
Maryanne ********
@Meno ****
can't get o in Australia.

Maryanne Fraser ... But then I thought O Visa is ONLY obtained within Thailand, no?
John **********
@Meno ****
no. You can get it in a number of countries. Whether you can get it in Oz or not I don't know
Russell *******
@Maryanne *******
oh ok , interesting. Thanks 🙏
Russell *******
I thought you can't get non O A in Thailand , just non O. Someone with more knowledge will confirm for you soon I am sure
John **********
@Russell ******
you can extend an existing OA inside Thailand

OA extensions require health insurance from one of the 14 Immigration approved Thai health insurers.

Doesn't OA renewal require health insurance?
