that’s a perfect reason. If you do decide to explore more I would check out Krabi province as well. Only 90 minute drive from Phuket or a quick boat ride. I found it a lot more cheaper, quieter and more nature. I ended up in Chiang Mai for the last two years now in the north.

Facebook “Phuket Visarun” is one service you can use. Take a van and drive down with a group of people. Should be a day trip. Leave early in the morning and back in Phuket by dinner time.

Can I ask why did you decide on Phuket? I only spent a week there and decided it was not for me. It’s more expensive compared to other parts of Thailand. A lot more tourist crowded. I am curious.

USA citizen? You can show up and get a 30 day stamp. You can extend for another 30 days. So zero planning can easily get 60 days. Or apply for an evisa before you arrive and get 60 days on arrrival and 30 day extension.

You might need 21 days left on your stamp to apply for an education visa. The school will help you.

Nothing really is difficult.

Very popular here to do a border bounce for more time. You are allowed to leave the country from land borders and come back 5 minutes later for an additional 30 days. Repeat going to immigration for the 30 day extension. You can do this twice in a calendar year. Resets January 1st each year.

None of my neighbors spoke English in the USA and didn’t care. South Florida. However I do avoid almost all humans because they love to talk bad about others. Thai is a very hard language. I cannot tell the sounds apart.

my wife said no to moving to Chiang Rai. We live in northern Chiang Mai. I would love to build a tiny little home up in the mountains in Chiang Rai. Get a few sheep. A rocking chair lol. Perhaps a holiday home. Will be camping a lot in Chiang Rai this winter.

I agree Chiang Rai has so many quiet peaceful mountains. National parks in Chiang Rai are free. Empty hot springs, cold weather. Love the sheep. Lots of delicious food. I live in Chiang Mai but love the peace of Chiang Rai.
