Easy question just want to confirm. During the 90-Day Non-Immigrant Visa based on Thai marriage can I leave the country? Or do I have to ask immigration for permission first? I want to go to Laos to explore for a week so want to cross by land. Goal is to convert it to multi entry visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can leave Thailand on a 90-Day Non-Immigrant Visa based on Thai marriage, but you must purchase a re-entry permit before exiting the country. Make sure to return before your 90 days expire to apply for a year extension, after which you can convert to a multi-entry permit.

If you are on the initial 90 days of a Non-O visa you got at the immigration office inside the country OR got from a consulate before you came here and were stamped in for 90 days you need to buy a re-entry permit BEFORE you exit the country (AND of course be back before that 90 days runs out so you can apply for the year extension at the immigration office for 1900baht.

After you get the year extension granted at the immigration office THEN you would buy a multi-entry permit for 3800baht and it'd let you exit/re-enter the year the extension is good for

There is no "multi-entry Non-O visa" available inside thailand. ๐Ÿ˜•

Thank you! great to know and for clarifying Tod. I am currenty on the family extension right now but about to apply for the 90 days in country, and friends want to go to Laos in December for a week. I also plan to leave the country at least four times next year. So just making sure.

ok, hang about,

when you APPLY for the 90 day Non-O visa inside the country it goes "under review" for a period of time and you CANNOT exit the country during that time ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Most offices have a 14 day under review but Chiang Mai and a few others have a 20 day one.

SO you need to make real sure IF you apply for that Non-O visa you hang tight until you get it stamped in your passport and get the new 90 day stamp

Once you have that then you can buy a re-entry permit (which will only be good for that 90 day stamp) and can exit the country and come back on it

I assume you are planning to apply for the Non O Visa as Married to Thai AND the one year extension of stay as Married to Thai... And that you will have 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only to meet the requirements for the Non O Visa as Married to Thai.

Am I correct?
