Hi, after spending 2 months in Thailand, December and January,I tried to get a bank account for my up coming attempt on getting a marriage visa, but 2 months later no bank account, every where I went big city's or small towns they all said no you need a visa, I even showed them the official Thai embassy website saying you need a bank account before you can get a visa and there just looked at me and said no visa no bank, anyway I have heard you can use a HSBC bank account to get a visa, is this true or just more running around catching your tail, thanks sorry if it's a bit long winded but really need advice,
TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) is having difficulty opening a bank account in Thailand due to not having a visa, which is typically required for setting up a bank account. Various comments suggest that tourists cannot usually obtain a bank account, and that it is advisable to apply for a NON-O visa outside of Thailand, which would later allow for a bank account setup. Some commenters mention the use of agents to facilitate the account opening process, while others clarify that certain banks may consider applications based on various circumstances, such as having a TM30 form or connections to foreign banking. Ultimately, HSBC cannot be used for this purpose as they do not offer retail accounts in Thailand. The community emphasizes the need for a visa to open a bank account and the complexities surrounding marriage visa applications.
