Mr Cumming, have you seen anything on how long this 60 day thing supposed to last? Has it been approved with the understanding that it is only in-effect for a certain period of time, or is it indefinite so far? Thanks!

I use a pre-paid VERY inexpensive per-minute VOIP phone service called YOLLA. Not nearly as involved as Skype. Been working great for 6 months now. But, I use it for calls to the USA. I do not know how well it would work to down under.

Well......it does take a while for national directives to reach to outlying border post via mule ya know. Ha Ha!

Yes, Phuket sure is pricier than Pattaya. Ha! Yes, you have a point in regards to the Jomtien IO and agents in this city. They carpet the city.

I liked living in Jomtien beach OK, but the prices of a decent sized condo was a bit much. I could not take living in a 28 sq meter shoebox, especially with a Thai GF also.

That is good information Sir, thank you! I don't even like Pattaya worth a darn, but at least I found me a very comfortable large apartment on the east side run by a fine English gentleman for 8K a month.

Right you are! I sure did not intend to wind up here for my convalescence, but several factors came togather for it to work out that way. Hopefully in the 1 to 2 month time frame I can scat outa here and head towards Phuket with a few stops along the way.

Thanks for that. As you mentioned, each IO is different. One important aspect regarding the Jomtien IO is those birds require the 800K to be seasoned for the 60 days when you make the initial application for a change to a Non-O.....,...not when you apply for the one- year extension. You would not believe the physical & financial grief that particular point has cost me. I would had simply moved to Phuket to circumvent their cock-eyed rule, but I had just had double total knee replacement and was/am having a troubled extended recovery and serious immobility.

Out of that my doctor requested a total of 180 days medical extension (2 X 90). All Jomtien gave me out of those 2 request was 30 days. Take my lesson to heart and do not dare to get medical work done within their district that would require a medical extension and involve immobility. Rant over.
