yes true I was here once and went to immigration after my 30 days ended, I asked for a family extension and the said I had to use the 30 day extension first and then after the 60 day family extension.

just get a multiple entry visa for 12 months based on marriage for about 5500 baht obtain outside of the country. no need to show the 400,000 baht

last year I did visa exempt runs 7 times over a 8 month period. Never once did they as me any questions. Each time I was out of the country for about 2 weeks
