TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the automated system used at Thai airports for checking visas during departures. The system primarily verifies the departure eligibility based on the initial visa stamp and the traveler's time remaining. While some users mentioned it operates similarly to systems in other countries, the process is expected to enhance convenience for travelers. However, there is skepticism about the complete removal of departure stamps, as traditional checks may still occur.

Most check in counters open 2.5 - 3 hours prior so why would I show up 3+ hours early?

Hopefully this means they will no longer put a stamp on passports upon departure. My pages are running out because of them.

I don't think they are upgrading the arrival process although I wish they were. This time they are replacing the departure process so hopefully no more exit stamps.

They don't need to check your visa. This is on the way out, remember? All it needs to know is the date you're allowed to stay until (which is entered by the immigration official when you come in or extend your visa) and today's date. Then everyone who's not on overstay can walk straight through.. ... ... in theory... in practice I bet there will still be someone putting a departure stamp in your passport.. they do love their stamps. 😃

no. I use it. Much faster and very convenient. Hopefully they will extend the process to inbound passengers too, as with many countries now

I suppose if you have a simple TR or visa exempt it would be a straight forward exit . However if you need a re-entry you would have to go old school and see someone

for tourists and WP/re-entry holders would be simple. Different if you live here but don’t have permanent re-entry. Don’t know why people don’t have re-entry when they live here.

They have similar in other countries. Could be same. There's a sort of booth. You place passport on a screen. It scans it. You do finger print. And it takes photo.
