TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the automated system used at Thai airports for checking visas during departures. The system primarily verifies the departure eligibility based on the initial visa stamp and the traveler's time remaining. While some users mentioned it operates similarly to systems in other countries, the process is expected to enhance convenience for travelers. However, there is skepticism about the complete removal of departure stamps, as traditional checks may still occur.

I was through security and immigration in less than 15mins yesterday

Most check in counters open 2.5 - 3 hours prior so why would I show up 3+ hours early?
Nick ************
The system has never worked for me at LHR. I always have to que up again.

Hopefully this means they will no longer put a stamp on passports upon departure. My pages are running out because of them.

@Hiromichi *******
they are not next on the entry stamp?

@Rene *****
I don't think they are upgrading the arrival process although I wish they were. This time they are replacing the departure process so hopefully no more exit stamps.

Countries share passport data, I got a non o EVisa in Australia when I arrived and scanned my passport I just had to put my finger on the scanner,, and he put the 90 days stamp on my passport

They don't need to check your visa. This is on the way out, remember? All it needs to know is the date you're allowed to stay until (which is entered by the immigration official when you come in or extend your visa) and today's date. Then everyone who's not on overstay can walk straight through.. ... ... in theory... in practice I bet there will still be someone putting a departure stamp in your passport.. they do love their stamps. 😃

@Han *******
there will be no departure stamp in your passport

@Han *******
in theory 😅 exactly my thoughts

@Han *******
they have already implemented this and you don’t get a stamp. Not hard to understand
Kim ********
Like this in Singapore. Was actually sad I didn’t get a passport stamp 🤣
John ********
@Kim *******
go to the post office for stamps
Tony *********
It would be more aimed at the locals . Like most other countries

@Tony ********
no. I use it. Much faster and very convenient. Hopefully they will extend the process to inbound passengers too, as with many countries now

@Ian ********
I suppose if you have a simple TR or visa exempt it would be a straight forward exit . However if you need a re-entry you would have to go old school and see someone

@Tony ********
for tourists and WP/re-entry holders would be simple. Different if you live here but don’t have permanent re-entry. Don’t know why people don’t have re-entry when they live here.

They have similar in other countries. Could be same. There's a sort of booth. You place passport on a screen. It scans it. You do finger print. And it takes photo.

In other countries it works properly 😅

It's only for departure. There's nothing for them to check.

I use the automatic gate since a year. There is no need for exit stamp anymore.

@Jon ****
they have already implemented this and you don’t get a stamp

@Jon ****
no it doesn’t. Only when you enter the country.
Jon *****
@Filippo ********
No, my passport has always had a departure stamp
Filippo *********
@Jon ****
sure if you get to the immigration officer he/she will stamp it…. If you go through the automatic gate obviously not…
Brandon ************
@Jon ****

But they do check for overstays etc. Assuming the machines will do that though.
