don’t shoot the messenger

The most recent notification from Bangkok Bank requiring expats to verify their accounts with correct phone numbers and visual recognition was reported around July 2025. This is based on user reports from platforms like Reddit and Ask Thailand, where expats discussed receiving notifications to verify their phone numbers by July 15, 2025, due to stricter Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. These notifications were linked to issues such as mismatches between registered SIM card and bank account names, often requiring a visit to a bank branch or mobile service provider to update information and complete facial recognition verification.

Additionally, Bangkok Bank has been implementing stricter identity verification measures since May 2025, as part of broader efforts to combat fraud and enhance cybersecurity, which included account freezes and requirements for updated personal information and facial scans.

For the most precise details, expats should check directly with Bangkok Bank through their official channels, such as the Bualuang Phone service at 1333 or +66 2 645 5555, or visit a branch, as requirements may vary by account and location.

yes they told everyone at the beginning of the year that you needed to reverify your account. If you did not do by the given date they will freeze accounts. Now that they are doing what they said everyone is complaining

I’m hoping not many in the same boat as you. Sorry to hear your horror story but they can choose which finger(s) to scan.

Why would a tourist need a bank account? Long term visa only now

and don’t forget that every government employee wants to justify their job and be there for 25 years so they get the government pension. They will keep everyone running around.

The Thai government could save a fortune by digitizing everything

I have friends who use the marriage visa ( only because it’s less money to hold in the bank) but even after 24 years I still see them being asked for yet another photo or something.

Get a normal retirement visa and then you can live 2 hours away 😂

sure but you only have to commit for the time you agree. Better if you are uncertain.
