My friends son is in Udon Thani on an educational visa which runs out February next year. He has been told he can’t apply before mid December but wants to get his head around if he could stay for another year ( preferred option) or have to go back to Europe.

Has anyone had experience of renewing an educational visa and if so what’s the best route forward?

I believe long term he would like to live and work here in Thailand

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend's son is currently in Udon Thani on an educational visa set to expire in February next year. He wants to understand the process for renewing this visa as he intends to stay and study longer in Thailand. Commenters emphasize the importance of communicating with the school regarding the renewal process. They mention that if he is genuinely attending classes at a reputable institution, he may likely be able to renew the visa for another year, else he may face issues. Some commenters note that after reaching the maximum time allowed for non-traditional learning, he might need to leave Thailand and apply for a new visa.

Go outside first and then be able to take a new class. If the school there offers other languages Besides Thai language

He cannot get another extension once the 12-15 months runs out. He would need to leave Thailand and start over with a new ED visa, because he's hit the maximum amount of time already for non-traditional learning (language school)

Thai language and culture from memory

That could possibly be pushed out to two years although he'd probably be tested on his language skills by an immigration officer. His school should know the process to follow

Has he been attending classes and extending every 3 months at immigration or is he on a dodgy ?

he has been extending every 90 days

he might be able to extend but should be aware that if he’s been studying Thai for a year he may be interviewed in Thai .

Why doesn't he ask his school?

Best place for answer is the school be studies at ,,,if he is serious student and the school is known as a reputable school with immigration he should be able to renew another year ,,if he’s just using education visa to stay longer he will run into problems
