TLDR : Answer Summary
You can rent a condo in Bangkok even if you are on a short-term tourist visa (e.g., 60-day tourist visa with a possible 30-day extension). Landlords typically do not require a specific visa type, but having a valid passport can facilitate the rental process as landlords may need to provide a TM30 registration for you. It is advisable to consider short-term rental options like serviced apartments or hotels, as they often come with more flexible terms and include utilities, making them more convenient for first-time expats wanting to explore the city.
I used Airbnb by the month rather than sign a lease. A bit more expensive but no hassle and no deposit.

You can rent a room in the Sport Hotel Hua Hin for one month or longer. 2 swimming pools. No breakfast included, no room service, gym is there. Was a decade ago 10 thousand per month……rooms with TV, not big, some have view to the sea,

Landlords don’t care about a visa, banks should be the same.

You can but more expensive for short term. You are better off renting a hotel room by the month. Saves money

Short term rentals at nice condos are hard to find. The condos with nice pool and gym are going to be 12 month lease. you would also have to set up Wi-fi service, electricity, water. better off to get a hotel for that amount of time that gives a deal for monthly rate. Then you will only have the hotel room rate to pay. the Wi-fi will be included, electricity included, you can run Air Con as much as you want. you get your room cleaned, bed made, garbage removed. Its worth it.

Can do month by month.

Many hotels offer significant discounts for monthly bookings..
Why wouldn't you stay in a couple of different areas of Bangkok before you decide on a more permanent location?
Try 2 different areas for 5 to 6 weeks each to get a better feeling for the city

I would do a border run Vice getting an ED Visa…

Many condos will have a listing on Airbnb, though some of those listings have minimum stay of 1 or 2 months - sometimes the owner will give you a contract to keep things legal with more than a month stay. Short term under a month will be quite expensive and even with a monthly discount on Airbnb it will still be a lot more than what you can sign up for a year lease if on a long term visa. Many are cheaper than most hotels though.
true, I know some people who rent for 12 months but stay for 5 or 6 continuous months- cheaper, and they have the option to return at anytime in the year or simply walk away and continue to pay.

This is the smartest post I have seen in here! A lot of expats more to foreign countries never having been there or only spending a couple of weeks in high season. Trial run of at least 2 months in off season is a better indicator if it is for you.
My husband and I move every 2-3 months all year, all over the world. The best way to get a short term rental like this is to join a facebook group dedicated to rentals, list your requirements, budget, and the area you are looking for. We have successfully rented in Thailand (Ao Nang) with this method and ZERO deposit. Government rate on Utilities. We paid basically an extra $100 a month over the 6 month rate and $200 over the 12 month rate.
what is the FB page you are on for rentals? I have just holidayed in Ao Nang for 3 weeks to feel it out. Hubby and I are seriously thinking of becoming expats. Staying for 2 months or so first is a great idea
it really is necessary to stay in high and low season. I posted what I was looking for in this group.

You can find month to month with smaller deposit . Usually they make up the difference by charging above government rate (5b ish) so anything above 5 is profit to the landlord who then pays electricity and keeps the difference. In your contract or agreement so it is legal.
Other , and most will required a 2 month deposit . So if you sign such an agreement and leave after 90 days they will keep your deposit . You must fulfill your year contract and not damage anything to receive your deposit .
I know some short term stays in Pattaya but Bangkok I can’t help. Good trip have fun ,

If you have money there are no restrictions!

Take a hotel room or serviced apartment for a few weeks at first & explore BKK, see which areas suit you. It’s a big city. If you decide you want to live in a certain area, can easily rent a place & move right in. Most are furnished.
: there is a single entry 60-days tourist visa, upon entering you get stamped in for a 60-days stay permit. This stay permit can get extended for 30 more days. The tourist visa becomes invalid upon entry. If you arrive without a visa, you do a visa-exempt entry and also get stamped in for a 60-days stay permit, which you can extend for 30 more days on Immigration for 1900 THB
you said "she stays in the country for 3 months, most people know this as a visa." . . . . I am not "most people". I am a Thai visa expert. This is WRONG. These three months are a stay permit, they are not a visa
This is how people who come know. I didn't ask you what happened, yet you're still answering. Don't answer questions that aren't asked. If someone says something to you, you have to keep quiet. Do you understand, bright boy?
you are quite arrogant and wrong. If someone posts something that is incorrect - like you - they are of course corrected. You don't decide who "keeps quiet" - do you understand?
there are plenty of ฿4k-฿8k apartments for rent all over bkk. Some have aircon some have fans
And they don’t care how long you stay because you pay month by month

The visa you're on completely does not matter. Ideally you would have a valid passport so the landlord can submit a TM30 for you. But if there's a visa or not does not matter.
Steve ***************
Yes, no problem at all.

There's no requirement to be on any visa type to rent any property. But the landlord also isn't going to care if you don't have a visa and then you can't get back into Thailand, they're still going to expect you to pay rent or lose your deposit.
