It is not the visa type. Entering on any visa or visa exempt can be checked. There is no "Visa" type targeting. They are just having a bit of a clampdown and more scrutiny. You will be fine with the DTV
BrightCranberry5804 Yes, the border clashes are ongoing, but the land border between Thailand and Cambodia has been closed for months. It may be possible to fly but I would not go right now anyway. The Embassy will have other priorities rather than dealing with visas right now.
As an example when I moved from "O" to "B" the O had to be cancelled before Embassy would process B. I had to apply for B outside Thailand. This was for a BOI "B" Executive Visa for a large Japanese company that had been BOI for 45 years and many Visas and WP over that time. so 1) old visa cancelled first 2) apply outside Thailand - no switching allowed even for BOI 3) All paperwork done by internal HR with many years of experience in these matters
Of course you can cancel a visa - I did it. People are saying they cannot get a visa issued while another "Live". I could not do that from O to B.. Tourist to B you leave the country in most cases to get B so not switching. Same with Ed. Have you ever changed visas? What sort of job?
BrightCranberry5804 I cannot advise you on that. When I had to cancel "O" to get "B" I had to go to the Immigration Office who issued it. I asked at BKK Airport but they said the visa and re-entry could only be cancelled by who issued it. It was the "Re-entry" Permit that caused the issues for me they said. If I dod not have the multi for the year it would cancel automatically when I left. The DTV is a completly different situation. Hope you get it all sorted out
To be fair to Immigration in Chiang Mai they probably have very little guidance about the DTV. It is not an Immigration Department Visa - it is MFA. I read one post on here where someone claimed they had the DTV cancelled in Thailand through an agency - no doubt it included a service fee. There are other reports that only the issuing authority can cancel ie MFA and then only where it was issued - in your case Cambodia. Good luck with it. It took me 2 trips to Singapore to get a "B" from an "O". Hope you get yours sorted without too much hassle.
If buying new the dealer should do everything for you. If 2nd hand you need a Certificate of Residence to transfer the Green Book (Ownership book) to you. It is all done at the Department of land Transport. Same place you pay the tax and basic insurance
