TLDR : Answer Summary
The new Foreign Minister announced that the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) program will continue under the new government. A user inquired about whether holders of the DTV can apply for a TIN (Tax Identification Number) and asked for guidance on the application process and its requirements.

Can a DTV holder apply for TIN? Anyone knows how to apply for TIN and it’s requirements?

I can easily imagine that it would be a requirement from anyone who is making payment to a DTV holder. In my view this is a developing situation.

So, a DTV holder staying more than 180 days in the country is not liable to income tax? Stated otherwise, where resident or non-resident staying more than 180 days in the country must file for income tax. I’m confused. Since a DTV holder can’t work for Thai companies, does that mean he/she isn’t liable for tax? Foreign incomes like from social media platforms will be taxable or not for us digital nomads?

You are imagining wrongly. It is quite obvious you have never worked or paid tax in Thailand. The payee CAN NOT be in Thailand. There is no way a foreign organisation is going to report payments to the Thai tax authorities for a contractor. Even if the foreign legal entity in Thailand (Company office etc) the DTV holder cannot do any work for that legal entity. This is very clear.

you have it the wrong way round. If I was in Europe and paid someone in Thailand, I would want their tax registration to cover my azz. been cross border invoicing my whole life always had to provide my tax id.

You do it at local revenue office within 60 days of earning assessable income. If that rule is followed then it is quite some time before most DTV holders would apply (Income not assessable until after 180+ days in country)
