Is it true that Thailand accepts the ASEAN driver licenses for driving in Thailand ? I have a Philippino DL and that would solve a big problem.👍🏻

Hello everyone,

I need some information regarding obtaining a Thai driver’s license in Bangkok.

I currently hold a valid national driver’s license from my home country, as well as an International Driving Permit (IDP). My national license is bilingual (my native language and English), and the IDP is in three languages (my native language, English, and French).

I understand that, in addition to these, I also need a residence certificate from Immigration, a medical certificate, my passport, and copies of all documents.

I also hold a Non-O visa with a one-year extension.

While searching through the group, I found a lot of contradictory and incomplete information. I’d appreciate clear answers specifically for Bangkok (in my case, the DLT in Chatuchak).

Here are my questions:

1. Do I need to have my national driver’s license translated into English and officially certified?

My assumption is no, since my license already includes English.

2. Do I need to make an appointment at the DLT (Chatuchak), or can I just walk in?

My assumption is no appointment is necessary since I’m applying for a conversion and not taking the full driving test.

3. Can I obtain the required medical certificate from any nearby hospital or clinic (private or government)?

My assumption is yes.

*4. Regarding the residence certificate: is it possible to obtain it on the same day in Bangkok, or do I need to wait 7 (or more) days to receive it by email? I’m willing to pay any applicable fee for same-day service.

I would appreciate direct answers from those with actual experience in Bangkok (not other cities), without unrelated recommendations.

Thank you.

London Visa Application.

64 year old semi retired nomad dual citizenship male UK/US looking potentially to live permanently in Thailand for the next few years.

Monthly pension of 28K BHT and can meet and exceed 1M + BHT in a bank account comfortably but no active income to show at this time from actual work

I am looking to file for DTV or possibly 1 year non immigrant visa.

Opinions on what is the best option(s) and potentially the most successful?

Thanks in advance.

Just to share and rant. On 27 May 2025, i went to the Bangkok Bank branch where I opened my account to update my personal details, re-submit all the required documents/passport/Thai driver’s licence and re-signed the forms as before. Task completed.

On 16 July, Bangkok bank app got locked so I went to Central Rama9 to update my personal information with AIS then I went to the Bangkok Bank branch upstairs to update my personal details again with the AIS receipt for verification to unlock the app. Task completed. App was unlocked after 5pm same day.

Tonight I checked the Bangkok Bank app and saw this message to visit the branch where I opened my account within 30 days. AGAIN 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think Bangkok Bank doesn’t understand what is customer service and support. GOOD GRIEF 🙄

Has Bangkok Bank now been awarded the prize for being the World's Worst Bank? If not, why not?

Hi:)

Has anyone here switched from a Non-B business visa to a DTV?

Just wondering if immigration makes it complicated or checks things more deeply, and how a re-entry permit on the Non-B affects the process.

Any experiences would be super helpful 🙏

Our LTR visa application recently got rejected after almost 5 weeks despite full qualification and submission of all relevant documents.

There was no explanation given.

We've written emails to BOI but haven't heard back. Has anyone else been through this process and if so, can you suggest a way out? We seem to be at a dead-end.
