My bank asked me if I want the immigration letter confirming the account balance for renewal of my one year visa in Thai language or English. Does it really matter?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The topic discusses whether a letter from the bank confirming an account balance for visa renewal in Thailand should be provided in Thai or English. Opinions vary among expats, with many suggesting that a Thai version is adequate since immigration officials can read it. Some prefer to have both language options for added clarity. Experiencing little trouble with the process, most expats in Bangkok have successfully used Thai letters, although some find English letters prompt more scrutiny during submission.

as far as the letter is concerned I don't need to read Thai because it's a standardized letter in the bank's computer system of which an English translation exists. I have always submitted the letter in English before but yesterday I submitted it in Thai. And I have now completed my one year extension for the 20th year running. So I'm not a newbie at this. I think I just noticed that with the English version the IO would take the letter into the supervisor to make sure she understood it whereas yesterday the whole process was done by what looked like a junior clerk and maybe it sped up the process a bit.

I have to use Japanese bank statement to get 90 days stay visa with which I can open a bank account with a Thai bank. Then, once I have that account, move 800K THB into it, leave the funds to season 2 months and then apply for O visa.

I always tell my bank Thai language is fine - the immigration folks all read Thai. It’s me who can’t 😅. I’m in Bangkok, haven’t had any problems with it.

I asked the question because although my letter has always been in English, I was just wondering what immigration prefers. Anything to make life easier for all parties concerned in getting the damned thing done.

I reckon the letter is for the immigrations officer to read so I always request a thai copy....it's just me
