I think he is lying. 3 years ago when it was very easy opening an account with Bangkok Bank Khrungthai refused telling me only possible with residence permit

 The sim cards at airport are like any other sim card you buy in shops. The dataplan might is less expensive in shops but that's about it. You can top up the sim cards from airport same as any other and get a different dataplan🤦‍♂️
