TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about experiencing both an ATM fee of 220 baht and an additional charge of 350 baht when withdrawing 20,000 baht using a Wise debit card. Community members explain that the 220 baht is a standard fee charged by local banks for ATM access, while the 350 baht is likely a fee from Wise for exceeding their free withdrawal limit. They recommend larger single withdrawals to minimize fees and suggest alternatives such as transferring money to a trustworthy friend's Thai bank account or using other banking services like Revolut or Charles Schwab for better financial management.
Used Chase card earlier 20kB, 220 atm charge then 43.61 FX, allowed £1500 per month at ATM. Unlimited by chip.

HSBC Global account is the best option that i have found, no ATM fees and best rate for the month.

You pay 220 Baht anyway, then an additional amount from your bank, depending on the conditions of your card. Wise has a fee too, but the worst, the exchange rates are very bad. So check some different ATM, don't use rhe first one.

I have wise and I'm retired in Thailand. That looks right for how much wise charges. Usually around 240 bahts for sending a 1000 dollars over. But it's sent to my bank acct in Thailand so I don't get any other charges. I stay away from ATM withdrawals using a foreign card due to extra charges and those surprise charges😄

Wise say there's no fees in the advertising

Rok Ziherl not all Thai banks give the same exchange rate. I went to withdraw 30,000 and the exchange rate was very low for the days online rate. So I removed my card and went to another bank ATM and got more than 1 bath for the £. So worth checking this also
Do you have dual citizenship with HK? I don't think I'll be able to get it. Annoyingly, I don't have the Baht in my currencies, yet the HSBC Expat global card does.
yes I am BC and now based in HK, looking for moving to Thai, I guess it is not about citizenship, HSBC issues many cards, you can asking them or your PM ..because hsbc hidden many new application doesn’t mean not existing . Eg Jade account is still existing , while people say all are now premier .
surely you still have to pay the Thai bank fee of 220bt? I have the HSBC Global Money card & can't wriggle out of it. Maybe if you have an American one? I've read some USA cards do manage to do this.
it’s very rarely best to bring cash. But USD $100 can attract better rates. Other currencies 👎

Atm charges 220baht for using any foreign cards and the 350baht may be the fees Wise charges for over the free withdrawal limit....it's better to withdraw with a foreign credit/debit card then the wise debit card but u do lose out on exchange rate...
it's expensive. Sent 4000 bhat to a friend and the rate was not good but their charge was, £,7.50 on top.mega expensive to send around a hundred pounds.
£7.50 to send to a friend that Uk sterling that is expensive like said normally send to myself at 20,000 BAHT to myself at a time to save on expenses and ATM obviously if you have better choices share with others why waste money we ain't working for them let's share as much info as possible for everyone to save money from these ripping the likes of us off
like said best to Google the rates and compare it to bank charges it could be worse or better I just use western union for the convenience the bank only allows me to withdraw 10 thousand baht a day obviously if need more it's extra charge and going to ATM next day again
pay the transaction fee for western union that's it ain't paying for cash machine I've used it all time when in Thailand I'm sure if you Google rates between using cash machine and western it will be cheaper

Maybee nextime you bring Cash and dont using ATM maybee more smart ?
I have travelling full time for 12 years. I have residency in 3 countries not my own. And I exchange currencies at least weekly. I’m not guessing about who has the best rates
i do about 10 years never anything lost If you Take Care good Just Change Put 80 % in a save place and the rest with you its not so difficult to understand i think
yes they refund the merchants fee. All the atms charge 220 baht per transaction, but some let you pull out only 20k and others upto 30k. If you use krungsri you can withdrawal 30k per transaction it's the yellow bank/atm.
Wise allows two fee free withdrawals per calendar month up to £200 in total - please check though current T&C. Anything in excess of above two criteria the charges apply. 220 baht is from the Thai Bank, unavoidable and hence always withdraw highest amount allowable (usually 20,000 but Krungsri Bank 30,000).,
If you did the test like I did (comparing how many bahts I get for my bucks between Schwab and Wise for example ), you will see clearly that you get ripped alive as well !! Even with no fee and 220 thb back . The rate is terrible. That’s how they make money. But please don’t believe me: go check and see by yourself .
Yes. But you get ripped alive by the change rates. Schwab anyone ?

If you have a thai friend you trust just transfer money from wise into their thai bank and get them to withdraw for you. Transfer is usually done in 5-10seconds
I've done it like 20 odd times and longest it taken was 4hours, usually dine in 5seconds if not cancel and try again... only time it's taken days is a deposit into my wise from New Zealand account and I did it on a public holiday .
yes you get 2 free withdrawals a month but the limits per withdrawal are low. These are my limits so you are way over this hence why you have been charged

Wise is the worst scam in the world. They refuse to return to give my money and blocked me. I will never ever do business with them.
they operate under UK law so will transfer your money to an account you give them. They also shut my account and wouldn't tell me the reason, only that I couldn't appeal it. It's because of AML laws, companies are extremely paranoid not to have a sniff of anything that might be interpreted (by then) as AML. I know someone who had their bank say they don't want to be associated with them for similar reasons. This is a worldwide issue and it's ordered from the top, maybe WB etc. Have you ever tried any financial transfers etc from Canada... It's terrible, super paranoid. I'll never try that again.
with a WISE card, you have a free monthly withdrawal limit, usually something around 200 USD (depending on your country). After you have used the limit up, WISE will charge a 1.75% provision on each withdrawal

Wise have really upped the charges recently. It might make sense to switch to Revolut or another provider instead.
I guess it depends what kind of wise card u have. for the standard wise debit card (the one which is for free) my monthly withdrawal limit is 200 euro. if i withdrawal more i will have additional costs
ah sorry i just double checked, for now they only offer one physical card with the 200 euro limit. not sure if they had different options before. anyway u can just check the setting options for your wise card

220 is access fee charge by the local bank in Thailand and the 350 is a charge from your ATM card issuer it's best to withdraw one time big time instead
