Why was I charged two separate fees when using my Wise debit card at a Thai ATM?

Quick question. I used wise debit card at ATM to withdraw 20000baht from my baht current account. ATM charged 220baht but wise also charged me 350 baht. Is this normal , l was told only ATM charge will be 220 baht.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the ATM and Wise card charges incurred while withdrawing cash in Thailand. It appears that when using the Wise debit card, the local Thai bank charged 220 baht for the transaction. Additionally, Wise imposed a charge of 350 baht, which is normal for withdrawals that exceed their free monthly limits. Many commenters suggested that using a different bank or card could reduce charges and emphasized the importance of checking the fees associated with ATM withdrawals.

You pay 220 Baht anyway, then an additional amount from your bank, depending on the conditions of your card. Wise has a fee too, but the worst, the exchange rates are very bad. So check some different ATM, don't use rhe first one.

I have wise and I'm retired in Thailand. That looks right for how much wise charges. Usually around 240 bahts for sending a 1000 dollars over. But it's sent to my bank acct in Thailand so I don't get any other charges. I stay away from ATM withdrawals using a foreign card due to extra charges and those surprise charges😄

Wise allows two fee free withdrawals per calendar month up to £200 in total - please check though current T&C. Anything in excess of above two criteria the charges apply. 220 baht is from the Thai Bank, unavoidable and hence always withdraw highest amount allowable (usually 20,000 but Krungsri Bank 30,000).,

Even with no fee and 220 thb back . The rate is terrible. That’s how they make money. But please don’t believe me: go check and see by yourself .

they operate under UK law so will transfer your money to an account you give them. They also shut my account and wouldn't tell me the reason, only that I couldn't appeal it. It's because of AML laws, companies are extremely paranoid not to have a sniff of anything that might be interpreted (by then) as AML. I know someone who had their bank say they don't want to be associated with them for similar reasons. This is a worldwide issue and it's ordered from the top, maybe WB etc. Have you ever tried any financial transfers etc from Canada... It's terrible, super paranoid. I'll never try that again.
