Hi

I want to make Thai drivers license for scooter.

I talked to some agencies already.

I saw here some posts you can go to an agency and they will help you get all the paper work bring you to pass the exam etc.

Well I cannot find any agency offering this service.

Can anybody recomend a agency in Pattaya offers the service.

I am pretty helpless and Google does not help me either.

And I don't want to do it myself I don't have problems paying an agency as I am helpless and don't have the energy to do it on my own.

TIA😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats looking to obtain a Thai driver's license for scooters in Pattaya are struggling to find reliable agencies that provide this service. While some participants recommend considering driving schools instead of traditional agencies, as they offer courses that include driving instruction and assistance with required documentation, other users suggest that obtaining a license is straightforward and can be done independently. Key recommendations include using services like 'Mot’s Agency' or J & E Concierge for expedited processing, and utilizing the 'DLT Smart Queue' app to schedule appointments. Additional documents like a valid home country driving license, residency proof, and a medical certificate may be required.

Stupid question but you don’t mention , I’m just assuming you do already have a driving license in your own country ? Because you do need one even if your going down the agent route

I just did for my boyfriend last time. You need to make an appointment on app “DLT Smart Queue” after that go to immigration and do Certificate of residence (need photo ) and also medical certificate (if in Phuket I pay about 100THB for medical certificate ) don’t need agency it’s easy if you can ride motorcycles 😁 mostly agency here asked to do document from Immigration about 2500THB , but as I said it’s easy to do. ( Some place don’t need queue but need to wait )

Ps.Driving school here about 5000THB by car, examination in school

They do a colorblindness test. I have mild colorblindness that's not noticeable and doesn't interfere with me at all, but it makes it so that I can't pass that test. Sucks.

I don't think it matters what the length of your visa is. Embassies aren't interested in that. The Australian embassy stamped such statements to any citizen who needed it, but stopped doing it several years ago. The US embassy is about to stop, claiming its cheaper and easier for US citizens to contact immigration.

Work permit holders can generally just use their work permits in lieu without needing to contact immigration or their embassy. However, the work address, instead of home address will then be printed on your license, which is weird. So if you get any fines, your workplace will receive them.

the document you are trying to obtain 'proof of address' is not issued by the UK Embassy. They redirect you back to immigration and in Bangkok, immigration will NOT issue a residence certificate if you are not on a long term visa, doing 90 day reports etc.

Work permit holders.... Blah blah

I don't know anyone on a tourist visa with a work permit...

you can easily get a license yourself than waste thousands of Baht to give to an agent who doesn't help you achieve anything.

You ask your embassy to notarize a document that states what your address is. Simple to do, unless your embassy no longer does it.

I can assure you a driver's license renewal is much easier than a visa extension. In both cases, you'll need to bring along all the documents they require.

I went in at 815am on the last day the office was open before they closed for Covid in 2020 and I was out of the office by 11am. Did it myself. Unlike visa matters, a driver's license renewal is something one can easily accomplish on your own without the need for an agent.

fine if you have the residence and health certs in your pocket and the queue isn't already too long for that day.

Btw Visa matters... I do myself.

Also 2020, pre covid, hardly relevant today.

a good one will

Obtain health cert, residence certificate.

Take you through pre test video, and assessment. Queue up before 6am to get your test 'ticket' and seen that day with no appointment. Client arrives at 9am. Complete and copy all paperwork only needing a signature from the client. Take you through the tests and assessments.

11am all done.

You can do it on your own without the need to queue up at 6am when the office only opens at 830am. Just get there at 815am when they open with all the documents and you'll be out of there around 1030 or 11am.

on the day I went... Only three people behind my agent in the queue got their licence that morning. They arrived before 7am. Many of those who pitched up at 8am queued happily for a couple of hours to be told to come back the next day.

With all the documents.... So that's hours in the local hospital to get a doctor's cert plus another visit to immigration for a residence cert. Yeah super quick and easy...

Avoid these agencies its not necessary. Its easy to get thai license, especially when you bring your current home licenses with you and they will give you thai license with minimum testing. You will need visa, proof of address or long term visa, medical check ssying youre OK to drive.

Agreed. Very easy to do it yourself. An agency may be useful for immigration purposes and to do a border run depending on your situation but for getting a driver's license? Ridiculous. Very easy to do it yourself.

Find driving school, you can pay for the course and then you can take knowledge exam and driving exam in school until you pass. Then they will prepare the document for you but you still need to bring document to land transport to apply for driving license by yourself.

But actually if you have work permit and you can drive, it is not that hard to do all the process by yourself without using driving school. You can apply for online appointment from dlt smart queue app.

Try looking for a driving school rather than an agency. There's loads. They'll teach to drive the scooter, get you through the exam and when you pass they'll give you a paper to take to the DLT which you swap for your license

you don't have to go to driving school, you can just go straight for the test. 2 parts, an exam and riding. But as you don't seem to be experienced I'd recommend the school route. I didn't need to do it as I had an IDP from home covering both car and bike so simple for me. My friend went the school route and it takes a few days but other than that straightforward
