you absolutely need a certificate of residence for opening a bank account

Since you used a picture of a US passport I will assume you are an American citizen. The US Embassy does not offer income verification services anymore and the only way to legally apply for the Non-O inside Thailand is to deposit 800,000 baht into a Thai bank account.

Apply for the initial Non-O while still in the US can provide you the initial 90 visa. There is a current issue with Thai banks restricting any kind of tourist visa from opening accounts even with Visa Agents support.

There is a Non-OA visa that can be applied from the US and looks at your current money in your home bank accounts. Once you have arrived on the Non-OA you can open a bank account after your first 90 days because it requires a residency certificate and most immigration offices won’t provide this until after your first 90 day report. Maybe with the help of a visa agent you can get the certificate of residence prior to your 90 day report. Then you can deposit your 800,000 in a Thai bank account.

Since you said “us” are you both planning to use the Non immigrant visa or one with trailing spouse ? Just a word of caution as trailing spouse visas are not processed inside of Thailand. If you are both going for individual non immigrant visa then each person will need their own bank account and their own 800,000 baht deposit.

Are you asking about staying with a DTV visa or as a tourist? Tourist are facing more scrutiny now with long stays using on visa exempt.

With DTV there is no issue

Oh and you need the location where it was filed with the courts. Bring a regular copy for your own information to copy the details asked on the affidavit

they don’t ask for them. You are swearing or attesting that the information is true and accurate. They don’t verify anything. You need the dates as it is requested on the document but they don’t ask or want to see.

state certified copies mean nothing to local Ampurs in Thailand. Check with the local ampur and ask them what they need. If they need said certified copies of your divorce papers then you have to take them to embassy for them to stamp. It may also require the US State department stamp as well. Just like any document leaving Thailand that needs to be certified legal in any other country must go through the Thailand MFA after the local ampur has stamped it. I have just done the marriage back in November and doing the opposite now to use our marriage certificate in the US with SSA and VA. Oh and your divorce papers will need to be translated and stamped by MFA if your local ampur actually requires them.

at $50 US dollars each document it makes a difference since I was required to get a certified copy of my passport and a certified copy of the marriage affidavit.

I never had to show either of those nor get them certified.

Make sure you have the dates of marriage/ divorce and 2 personal references along with their contact and mailing address.
