FYI - My very first online 90 day report was approved within 36 hours. Very easy and stress free! I was expecting a hassle of some sort. I am in Pran Buri, if that matters at all….

Warning for those considering teaching English in Thailand: Your experience may change based on your skin color and appearance. If you're a blonde female with white skin from a native English-speaking country, you'll enjoy working for Thai people. They'll praise you for your looks. Otherwise, things may not go well for you. Thailand has cultural rules that don't make sense, and you have to follow their system. If you work for agencies, they will lie to you. Since the school knows you're through agencies, they may fire you based on how they feel. If you bring common-sense ideas, someone will notice, and you'll be fired. You'll lose your deposit on your apartment and have to move to another school or commute long distances.

When people talk about Thailand, they mention how perfect everything is, how amazing Thai food is, and how friendly Thai people are. However, Thai food is bad for health because it contains a lot of sugar and MSG. Thailand's laws are for Thai people only. As a foreigner, you're just a cash machine. Everything, from opening a bank account to getting visas, is confusing and has long, complicated steps. Thailand doesn't want foreigners to live there. They want you to spend money and leave.

Most male foreigners you meet in Thailand are of a certain type, born in a soft lifestyle, especially in South Asia, mostly in Thailand. Since no one corrects their behavior, they fight to stay there. Thai people aren't actually friendly; they lack social skills and common sense. They fake a smile in front of you, then gossip about you behind your back. That's why you never find fit, masculine foreigners in Thailand. Living in Thailand might make you lose your sanity.

Thai people are often perceived to have a significantly lower IQ, comparable to a 5-year-old child with Down syndrome. It's not uncommon to encounter individuals who struggle with basic tasks and seem entirely clueless about various aspects of life when in Thailand.

Not a particularly useful anecdote- but maybe helpful to someone.

Just left the office in Chiang Khong trying to get a marriage recorded. While we sat at the window the dude changed his story repeatedly. The essence was "only the office chief can stamp foreigner marriages" at one point he mumbled something about due to the proximity of Laos. He also said the chief was upstairs in a meeting and then changed the story to he was in Bangkok until Wednesday. He also showed us a stack of near 20 sets of documents that he alleged were foreigner marriage packages awaiting review. He advised us to go to the office in Chiang Rai- which we had done and they told us to go to Chiang Khong. I am embarrassed for everyone involved including myself.

I was in my local immigration sorting out my marriage visa using the 400k method. I asked about the requirements for using the monthly money transferedmethod for next year. I was told the following. I need to get an official letter from my pension department and uk bank as proof that my pension is legitimate. I was also told that only my pension would be considered for the money and not earnings from property rental that I also have. Has anyone else been told these requirements and that only my pension will be considered when bringing monies across. TIA

My mother in law owns the house I live in. I'm trying to fill out the TM30 in her name, so I don't have to go to immigration after going out of town. It seems this last section won't take any characters entered (Thai, Roman, numbers). Anyone had this problem? Any solution, if so?

To clarify: How / where to do (the first) 90 day report if living on an island (without immigration office / say e.g. Koh Tao)? Online seems to be down for months now / and anyhow not applicable for the first 90 day report? I read somewhere that alternatively reports can be filed with the local police office (but some people disagreed). Sending in mail to Bangkok seems error-prone. Do they really expect me to do a costly day-trip (e.g. to Koh Samui) just to do a senseless 5 minute 90-day report? Thanks for sharing your experience.
