Some applicants with a valid METV have been told to wait until it expires before processing of the DTV can begin. It makes sense. Why don't you use up that METV first? DTV isn't going away.

Do I need a physical bank statement or is a digital statement acceptable for my Thailand visa application from Pakistan?

The digital statement should be OK, since you have to upload it online. However, if you can get a physical statement, do so, since many Pakistanis have been called in for interviews. In summary, get both.
