Why are some freelance agents saying DTV is going to change due to the Prime Minister being suspended? Feels like scare tactics

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around rumors spread by some freelance agents regarding potential changes to the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) following the suspension of the Prime Minister. Many participants accuse these agents of using scare tactics to drive sales and express skepticism about the validity of these claims. Some believe that while changes to immigration checks may occur, a total overhaul or suspension of DTV is unlikely, arguing that the government may simply implement stricter requirements without changing existing laws. The community expresses concern over the tactics used by agents and highlights the unpredictability of bureaucratic processes in Thailand.

So the slow drip feed of anonymous bros spreading negative ideas about the DTV (special rooms at immigration, my brother’s sister’s cat works for immigration and said that it’s all going to change) seems to have taken hold and a few people seem to have made their minds up that it’s going to change.

Mainly, I suspect, due to their original idea that no one should get a five year visa for a couple of dentist appointments. This original seed of doubt has been effectively watered by the anonymous bros and agents trying to convince people to quickly book their services.

If there’s one thing you must be aware about Thailand, is that rules change more frequently than bargirls change boyfriends

There’ll likely be an expansion of DTV rather it being suspended. I could see a 10 year DTV coming in a couple of years, but obviously with higher requirements and cost.

I do not think anyone is trying to lure people into the elite type visa. Absolutely no evidence of anyone in here promoting them. Not a single post. The demographic in this group are not the same target market.

Anonymous participant 956 I am not so pessimistic. They are desperate for higher visitor numbers right now. I think it might be changed though and if anything the Soft Power category. Not eliminated but just ensure the visa runs alongside the courses etc.

I think the scare tactics are created by the OP. Exactly which agents said this, when and what media was used?

I've never heard ANY visa agent say anything positive about the DTV. Anybody, from any country, can apply for it, anytime, while NOT in Thailand without the need for an agent. That's why they hate it! People who use agents for DTV are just lazy or stupid.

clueless agents making up stuff to scare people and make money. many are probably also just ignorant and uninformed… agents dont even have any impact in the DTV.

The more the government makes it harder the less people will come and turn to other countries like Vietnam. There should be a good system in place and the need to jump through hoops and do 90 day reporting is outdated. Needs to be brought into 2025

It’s like when you don’t pay a bill here in the business threatens you with immigration over it. It’s a scare tactic because actually a civil bill that’s unpaid has nothing to do with immigration, but they will do that here it’s kind and nice as the people are and everything that they say they’ll do that and they will scam you too. The agents will get me the make up things. This is not a perfect place

It may change, but I don’t think it’s going to happen overnight. What is more likely to change sooner are the requirements from immigration to implement more checks at the airport or land borders. IE ;request to see proof of funds, return tickets, proof of ongoing employment contracts, and proof of ongoing softpower classes

Anonymous participant 456 That is the most likely scenario. They do not need any law changes. They can apply stricter guidelines within the current structure if they wished to. No evidence of thst right now though.

FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt) Marketing. Not the most sophisticated. The DTV will not be on any politicians or parties political agenda right now. I have not heard the DTV mentioned by a politician since the PM who introduced it 11 months ago.

No. The PM previous to the one now suspended. Srettha Thavasin was the PM who introduced the DTV along with the MFA. Family owns the very large property developer of which he was CEO - Sansiri
