Yes thanks for the added definition - I just didn't remember to use the word 'Secured'. It would be a pain to have to use collateral/security to have this credit card - but he would have one that works.

I have had instances where my Bangkok Bank Debit Card would not work for online purchases. I had to consult with B.B. customer service. Then the B.B. Debit Card began working with Lazada and others. I suspect Grab is seen as an online purchase.

I have heard of Credit Cards being issued if there is a pledge of some sort of collateral similar to a Certificate of Deposit (CD)

You get a Visa from the Thai Embassy / Consulate. These Days mostly done online initially. Then there are things like Covid test or Vaccination Records, apply for a Certificate of Entry - COE. There may still be a 7 to 10 day or longer Quarantine in a authorized hotel.

You need nothing much from the British Embassy - except a passport from what ever division of the British Government issues them.

The man should apply for a Non Immigrant O-A Visa in America. He will have to show 800,000 Baht Equivalent in an American Bank Account for 3 months prior to applying at the Thai Consulate. If he does not have this amount if he can get a loan for the 800,000 Baht Equivalent place it in a bank account in his name... Do all necessary steps to Apply. Once the O-A Visa is put in his Passport he can withdraw the money and pay back the loan. Because under an O-A Visa the money in the Bank Account is never checked again (not same as what happens in Thailand with the O Visa Extension).
