Until a Immigration Officer tells you, that this is the last time you come milking the visasystem, then comes trouble.

He is talking about "residence certificat" which used to be proof of staying long term,at least 3 months, in Thailand, and as proff of residency, it was a shortcut to getting a bankaccount or a drivers license.

Now banks doesn't trust that anymore, and want to see proff that you are on a long term visa, stayed several months in Thailand on a long lease, so you have a permanent adress, and not travel around all the time as tourist do.
Henrik *****
Banks no longer takes any notice of the residence certificat, after some Immigration Offices started handing them out prior to the 3 month required to be regarded as a resident, and no matter what visa scheme the tourist is on.

No Banks check by themselves that the applicant has stayed at a permanent adress for several months on a long lease

have a steady income every month, that is easy tracabel,

being on a genuin long term visa, not visa excempt, tourist and DTV ( which is tourist ).

Having a respectful approach to negotiate with the bank,

Put in a substansial amout on the account, which you can prove the origin of.

DTV IS NOT ELIGABLE FOR OPENING A THAI BANKACCOUNT.

I you want a bank account, you should not have a touristvisa as DTV

Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.

Digital nomads which the the DTV is aimed for, is by definition people that travel around a lot, which are the opposit of what banks wants as customers.

That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.

Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.

Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so reluctant depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.

The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.

It is either or.

Either you are a tourist or you are a dedicated student (fulltime), if you want that the main reason to get a visa.

You cant always get what you want.

DTV based of learning language is being rejected at most embassies.
Henrik *****
If you want a visa with language learning as the main reason, you can not use online classes, which you can attend everywhere in the world.

ED-visa is for learning, but you have to attend classes all the time, and you may be tested if you are learning anything, and you must use most of your time for studying.

In the past there has been big problems with foreigners, that couldn’t pay hospitalbills etc. if they got involved in a accident.

Under corona you had to show a medical insurance to overcome that problem of unpaid medical bills, but that did also stir up a lot of criticism and other problems.

But medical bills wasn’t the only finacial problem to be dealt whit, where foreigners misused the hospitality of Thailand, and to make sure those who make the problem also pay to solve the problem, Thailand now request a cash deposit, to cover those situations.

Bad boys out, good guys in.

Why don’t you search the group for that specific Embassy, tons of answers already.
