It’s already been over 2 weeks since my Bangkok Bank account has been blocked, and I still have no access to my money.
Even though I own a condo, I’ve been told that the *head office* has to approve it, and the process is taking so long. I also met someone with a retirement visa who is stuck in the same situation.
I tried opening an account at SCB.
One staff member told me I cannot open an account with a DTV visa, even if I own a condo. But another staff member in the same branch said I can, took my documents, scanned them, and sent them to the head office.
Now I’m waiting for their reply.
Is anyone else going through the same thing? Honestly, I’m exhausted. I’m down to my last cash and just using TrueMoney to buy basics from 7/11.
Really frustrating... I’m starting to consider what to do next.🤷

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports their Bangkok Bank account has been blocked for over two weeks, causing financial distress despite owning a condo. Attempts to open a new account at SCB have resulted in mixed responses regarding eligibility with a DTV visa. They express frustration and seek advice from others in similar situations.
Thai lawmakers are trying another “thing” without considering the implications, just like they did with weed investors (farmers, shops). They simply don’t care. Thailand needs a tourist bank account with some limitations (max 30K Baht, no access to regular banking tools, etc.). As a DTV holder, I can see what we need, but they cannot see why, because…!
If bank account is so important and you have money to invest in the country just move to a non b visa; it will costs you 200k per year to maintain you can hire a local Thai assistant for your business create some value here too and paying taxes and vat and you will be all good to make your life here; stop crying it will not work; most of the freelancer on DTV can apply for a local company and relocate part of their business here; they don’t do it because they know it gonna need to pay a little bit more; Thai people know it and that why they only give a tourist status with this visa
Again : your DTV is not meant to make a life here. The message from authorities is crystal clear: you are just temporary here and they don’t want you to settle here. There are other visa for this.
Anonieme deelnemer Owning a condo might be a reason for some banks to open an account, but that does not change the fact DTV is not to set up a life in Thailand, anonieme 153 is right about that.
Wrong. Numerous examples of people on DTV owning a condo : can’t have a bank account. It’s national policy. Other banks just started to freeze then cancel accounts of DTV holders.
You should have known allready when you applied for DTV that it isn’t eligible for a Thai bankaccount, but you have chosen to overhear it, so stop whining.
Anonymous participant 375 yeah on Thailand everything is temporary, I thought about that as well, but at least for now I can use my money. What awkward situation..
Anonymous participant Until the DTV thing is sorted out, there's going to be issues. After what's happened to Bangkok Bank, the other banks will be running scared
it’s been 2 months since they told me to come and get my money but they don’t want to give it to me saying it’s blocked again , while it never even unblocked, and I gave them all the papers
For ages people had no electronic payment methods, and now people start complaining to live without Thai bank account is annoying. Funny. All the big shops accept foreign bankcards, an in the smaller shops normally you don't pay large amounts. Get 2 times a month cash from ATM with your foreign card and you are done.
yeah man, i even cant pay with it in PEA, the electric bill lol. but i set up Truemoney wallet, and i top up the wallet with my bank, and use it to pay bills /
The phone verification is something different than the recent KYC (know your customer) verifications that they are doing recently. Both waves of customer checks have led to closed accounts.
because the screen message on the Banking app said the account had to been frozen due to registered phone number not matching the account. AIS made sure my details were correct, copied passport and gave me a print out of details to give the bank.
This is if you just need to show that your Telco Account is aligned to your passport and that passport to the bank account. It is a Bank of Thailand requirement for all mobile banking in Thailand - not just Bangkok Bank.
I have seen posts in other groups too. People waiting 17 days without access when they were told 3 to 5. Bangkok Bank have not exactly been a shining example of efficiency with this. Everything must be decided at HQ.
