Am I right in thinking the Retirement visa requires you to hold your lump sum money in a Thai bank account but DTV is foreign bank account?

both are in fact valid. If an error was made, requesting an explanation is perfectly acceptable. Whether they supply one is another matter. Equally, it’s common practice to ask for feedback when being rejected for a job. It’s a good way to understand what you need to do better next time and a way to gauge if the company followed good practice.

You will need to evidence your work, be that a portfolio or regular payments being made to yourself.

The simple answer is yes, crossing the border by land is fine though you should spend a couple of days exploring while you are away to make a trip of it.

As a prospective DTV applicant, it does seem that those who genuinely meet the criteria and intend to use the visa as intended, have a good experience.
