For people who are currently doing remote work on the DTV visa for 6+ months already, are you salaried, do you freelance or did you register your own company in Thailand?

I'm currently salaried at a Dutch company and wondering if I can keep doing remote work on a salaried basis even if I want to move to Thailand semi-long term (3-5 years). Thanks!

Maan, last week I applied for the digital nomad DTV with the London embassy, thinking the whole thing was surprising straightforward (clearly very naive).

They’ve just emailed me saying I now need:

1. Better quality passport scan – I already gave them the same scan I successfully used for another country visa.

2. Proof of current location – I already gave a bank statement with my address, but now they want a utility bill in my name, and I live with my parents in the UK so none are in my name.

3. Stamped bank statements – for closing balance and last three months. I’ve already given statements but not stamped; not sure my bank even does that.

4. Professional portfolio or company description – I already submitted a statement with screenshots of earnings showing consistent freelance activity.

5. Self-assessment tax return / statement of accounts / other HMRC docs – I haven’t been freelancing long enough to submit a tax return; maybe I could just give bank statements again?

6. Letter confirming employment/contract details – I work freelance across multiple platforms. Even though I meet the monthly requirements, none of my “clients” are going to provide a signed letter addressed to the embassy.

Am I just screwed here and out the visa fee?

I was looking at the soft power DTV application and saw that it is asking for employment details. While I am technically still employed until November, I feel I should say I am unemployed as that is what I'll be once I move to Thailand. Thoughts? My employer wouldn't provide me with a letter saying I'm allowed to work abroad.

Seemed odd to me that they're asking for employment details for the soft power DTV.

Can anyone share how long did it take to get DTV visa as workation (freelancer) in HCMC? It takes quite longer than I thought...

Turned out to be pending approval on August 13th

Still so far nothing has changed.

I already know that August 11th and 12th were Thai national holidays and they don't work on weekends, but still almost 7 business days have been passed while on HCMC official consulate website says general processing time is 4~6 days. Trying to be patient but the fact that I even needed to cancel my flight ticket that supposed to leave two days ago just makes me frustrated..

I have only one client and have been earning over 2k, with payments deposited directly into my account. I also have the invoices.

I’ve been getting paid by this client since March 2025, and I’ll have over 500k Bhat accumulated for the past three months.

I want to know if that’s acceptable, or if they require multiple clients.

Has anyone been approved with just one current client?

I’ll be applying from Hanoi, sometimes in November.

In this case, what is better:

1/ A freelancer

2/ A remote worker.

If i where to go the workation route.

What papers are exactly needed?

Applying in Oslo.

- 500k in account

- Employment contract.

- Portfolio or is resume fine?

- Paper from company that i will work remote in thailand and not with any thai customers?

The work am doing is provision based salary.

And i just started 01.08.2025.

Will this be a problem if i can prove other source of income like pension?

Pension is about 70000 bath pr month.

I will write a cover letter explaining my work, and my pension.

Is there anything else i need to think about?

Has anyone from Asia opened an EU company to get remote EU/US jobs?

I'm from Philippines and I'm a remote tech/freelance professional.

I’ve noticed that many EU/US companies list remote jobs but say “EU only” or “must be EU-based.” I’ve read that some people open a company in the EU (like in Portugal, Cyprus, or Estonia), hire themselves, and work as legal contractors — which helps them land more international clients.

I’m considering this route:

* Open a company in Portugal or Cyprus

* Apply for a visa (like Portugal's D2 or Cyprus digital nomad visa)

* Work for EU/US clients remotely through my company and invoice them directly

Has anyone here done this?

Is this really a viable route to getting better remote jobs as a non-EU citizen?

What are the pros/cons, and what should I be careful of (e.g. taxes, visa issues, rejection by clients)?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually tried this — especially if you’re from Asia or outside the EU originally.

I have a question about the soft dtv visa. Are you legally allowed to work online as well? Obviously you're not allowed to work for Thai clients; are you allowed to freelance online for non Thai residents whilst staying in Thailand with a DTV soft power visa?

So far, in my research, I have only found companies that offer remote work, but restrict that to Germany or maximum the EU. Especially in terms of tax and legal aspects, this seems to be an exclusion criteria for many companies.

Therefore, my question to you: Do you know employers in Germany (or maybe even specific industries or forms of companies) that allow work from Thailand, whether it is official or at least unofficially with tolerance?
